The 2021 Wizard Rock Six Month Report: July-December, Part 2!

Welcome back, folks! This right here is the 2nd part of the July-December 2021 Wizard Rock Six Month Report on the Wizrocklopedia! We’ve got another batch of incredible new releases and rereleases for you!

Check out part one of the July-December edition here, and older installments right here! If we missed anything or made any errors, comment below or email us at wizrocklopedia [at] gmail [dot] com! Also, take a look at parts one and three for the rest of the releases of the past six months!

And without further ado, let’s get into the releases!

September 1: Various artists – Wizard Rock Sampler 2021 album: Bandcamp

Starting this edition of the column out right, the yearly Wizard Rock Sampler came out as usual on September 1! Featuring 25 new songs by Draco & the Malfoys, How Airplanes Fly, Hawthorn & Holly and so, so many more, this edition of the Sampler keeps up the high standard set by previous year’s installments! Really incredible music here!

September 1: Aguamenti – “September 1st:” Bandcamp

Also on September 1, Aguamenti released this mellow and heartwarming rap about introducing a new student to Hogwarts! It’s wonderful!

September 1: The Cruciatus Curse ft. Dream Quaffle – “Wrockstar:” iTunes | Spotify | YouTube | Video

This song also came out on the Wizard Rock Sampler 2021, but it got a single (and lyric video!) release elsewhere! The Cruciatus Curse perfectly parodied Post Malone’s “Rockstar”—and boy does it wrock! The song also features Dream Quaffle doing a guest rap. It’s great all around!

September 2: Dawlish and the Archies – “The Joe Manchin Song:” Bandcamp

Winning most NSFW wrock song of the year hands-down, Dawlish and the Archies came out with this single—their first song since 2019! A politically satirical song about Joe Manchin from the perspective of the Dumbledore family, it is not for the faint of heart lol

September 2: Pablo Flores Torres – “La Eternidad:” YouTube

Argentinian Potterhead Pablo Flores Torres continues his operatic exploration of the Hogwarts founders with this incredible track from Salazar Slytherin’s perspective, matched with a lovely animated video! We can’t wait to see and hear where this concept album-in-progress goes next!

September 3: The Forbidden Forest – “Thestral Lullabye:” Bandcamp

Originally released on the Wizard Rock Sampler 2021, ambient electronic wizard rock band the Forbidden Forest came out with their second single, “Thestral Lullabye!” Clocking in at nearly 8 minutes, this is a soothing instrumental journey that widens the boundaries of wrock!

September 4: Nur Peach – “I Must Not Tell Lies:” Facebook | Instagram

New wrocker Nur Peach continues releasing videos of incredible songs recorded live! This ballad’s about Harry’s frustration in book 5 and gives me all the feels!

September 5: Dots and Lines ft. Sara Idani – “Beauxbatons Ladies Sara Idani Remix:” YouTube

Dots and Lines released the original version of this song on Hut on the Wrock: A Sea Shanty Comp back in May, featuring a whole crew of other wrockers on vocals. In September, they released a remix of the track giving the other vocalists (especially Sara Idani) a more prominent place in the song! We love both versions!

September 6: Mermanda – “Mugglebait:” Bandcamp

This is a delightfully unique and esoteric song from Mermanda (inspired by the Wizrocklopedia’s Bertie Botts Every Flavor Jam prompt for July!). I am not even going to try to explain what the song’s about in this column, but suffice it to say that it’s about Arthur Weasley and contains so much double entendre!!!

September 7: The Birthdaiy Plan – Harry Potter and the Birthdaiy Plan album: Bandcamp

Unexpectedly appearing on the wizard rock scene, British math rock duo the Birthdaiy Plan released their wizard rock album in September! The album is a retelling/reframing of all the HP films, as filtered through the Birthdaiy Plan’s complex and witty perspective!

September 8: SlytherSpouse – Eponymous EP: Bandcamp

An experimental wizard rock EP? Clocking in at about a minute long? Featuring Totally Knuts AND Dream Quaffle? SIGN ME UP!

September 15: Various artists: Wizrocklopedia Compilation Club #3: Let’s Get Loud! album: Not publicly available—sign up to get all four 2021 albums here and all four 2022 albums here!

This fantastic compilation, organized by Hawthorn and Holly and part of the 2021 Wizrocklopedia Compilation Club, features 10 amazing new punk, rock, metal, and ska wizard rock songs by the likes of the Blibbering Humdingers, the Dolly Shakes, Creevey Crisis, and so many more wrocking musicians!

September 17: The Parselmouths – Sssss album: Bandcamp

On September 17, the Wizrocklopedia was incredibly proud to rerelease the Parselmouths’ two formerly out-of-print albums! Their debut album Sssss shaped a large portion of wizard rock to come, and has some wonderfully catchy jams to boot!

September 17: The Parselmouths – Illegal Love Potion album: Bandcamp

Illegal Love Potion is a true classic of the genre, and we’re so glad that folks are able to download it again! So many gems on this album!

September 19: Corbad – HP[dot]EP EP: Bandcamp

Ten years ago, Corbad released HP EP, a heartfelt and intimate folk wrock EP! Sparked by a recent review on the Wizrocklopedia, he rerecorded and polished the EP and gave it a new release. It also includes a brand-new bonus track!

September 29: Candle Wix – “Magical Railways of the World™ Theme Song:” Bandcamp

It me! I was struck by inspiration and put together this a capella demo late at night one night, inspired by September’s Bertie Botts Every Flavor Jam! It’s a fun imagining of what trains in the wizarding world could be like!

October 1: Dream Quaffle – Magic Jukebox EP: Bandcamp

After a well-received run of singles and comp appearances starting in April 2021, new wrocker Dream Quaffle released their debut EP in October! Ranging from silly to sad to heartwarming, this collection is destined to become a classic!

October 1: Tom Riddle and Friends – The Acoustic Love Collection Volume III: The Good Years album: Bandcamp

Uniquely satirical and whimsical wizard rock band Tom Riddle and Friends’ misleadingly titled full-length album The Acoustic Love Collection Volume III: The Good Years has long been out of print! Well, it’s available for download again, thanks to the Wizrocklopedia Music Archive!

October 5: Nur Peach – “Greater Good:” Facebook | Instagram

We finish off this week’s column again with songs by Nur Peach, the new wrocker who has been uploading incredible live video recordings of her songs! This song is about Dumbledore and Grindelwald’s troubled relations, and it’s right up there with How Airplanes Fly’s “Poetry in Motion” in my opinion!

October 7: Nur Peach – “After All This Time:” Facebook | Instagram

This soulful Snily song is yet another Nur Peach triumph! She wrote, “I know writing a wrock song about this is cliche at this point, which was why I put in extra effort to make it a good one”—and boy, is it a good one!

We’re all the way into October now, but there’s still an incredible amount of amazing music to come! Check back on the Wizrocklopedia next week for the third and final installment of the July-December 2021 Wizard Rock Six Month Report!

And! If you read all the way to the end, we’ve got a surprise for you! To celebrate the amazing creations of the wrock community in the past 6 months, we’re hosting a Bandcamp gift card giveaway! Just comment on any one of these 6-month round up posts and tell us one of your favorite releases or songs of the past 6 months. (One comment per person, please!) The winner will be announced on January 23, 2022! Happy listening and wrocking out!

Thestral Lullabye was one of my favorites from this span of time. It’s great to put on while trying to focus or relax. I also really liked Let’s Get Loud!

Yes! I love all the care and effort Graeme puts into his ambient pieces. The samples in this one were particularly wondrous. It’s so beautiful that the Forbidden Forest exists!

And also yes! Let’s Get Loud is such a good album! It’s one of those records that can be listened to time & time again. <3

It’s a bit of a cheat, because I found it for the first time on this list, but I’m always a sucker for ambient synth music, so I’ll add another shout-out for The Forbidden Forest! Lovely stuff, and a handy list – thanks!
