Welcome back, wrock fans one and all, to the third and final part of the January-June 2021 Wizard Rock Six Month Report! If you’d like, you can check out parts one and two as well!

What a six months it has been for wizard rock. So many new bands popping up and old bands still recording, so many amazing online concerts (and the return of a few in-person shows!!!!), so much fan support and positive discourse and kinship. That’s what the wizard rock community is about, and we’re not going anywhere! Wrock is life and we are glad that you, reader, are along for the ride with us!

All in all, there have been 40 new releases in the past six months—plus 13 old releases reissued by the ‘Pedia (and there’s a heckuva lot more where those came from, y’all!). That’s more than THREE HUNDRED wizard rock songs, both new and newly rereleased!

OK. Y’all ready? Click on the “more” button, because the last set of magnificent wrock releases is listed below! Let’s go!

STOP THE PRESSES! On the day before this post was supposed to be published, I found out about three AMAZING releases that we missed from last year! They’re all by the incredible Argentinian fan composer Pablo Flores Torres! I’ll list them here so you can jam out to them!

July 15, 2020: Pablo Flores Torres – Y si la historia de DUMBLEDORE fuese un MUSICAL: iTunes | Spotify | Video | YouTube

Yes, the title’s a bit YouTube-y, but the songs are incredible! This is the Spanish-language story of Dumbledore’s younger days and is truly not to be missed!

September 14, 2020: Pablo Flores Torres – What if DUMBLEDORE became an EPIC MUSICAL?: iTunes | Spotify | Video | YouTube

If you can’t speak Spanish, no problem! Pablo Flores Torres also released a version of his epic Dumbledore musical in English–and it’s incredible!

December 13, 2020: Pablo Flores Torres – “Nuestro Hogar:” Video

The first single in a planned musical about Hogwarts’ founders, this song is wonderfully animated and is a tantalizing teaser for the rest of the project! Can’t wait to hear the full thing!

Longtime wrockers and filkers the Blibbering Humdingers have only 2 wizard rock songs on their new album—but they’re good ones! “Queenie’s Curse” and “Ravenclaw Founders Song” are both wonderful and actually surprisingly serious for the Blibs.

Why yes, the Whomping Willows put out a new album! Featuring several new songs and several wonderfully reimagined versions of old favorites, this album proves once again why tWW are one of the hardest-wrocking bands around!

May 21: Celestial Warmbottom – Celestial Warmbottom: Empress of Wizard Blues EP: Bandcamp

On May 21, the ‘Pedia rereleased two remarkable old wizard rock EPs! Celestial Warmbottom is an NYC wrock mainstay and we were so happy to get her one and only EP out into the world again!

Neville’s Diary continues to be marvelous, and we rereleased their second EP, which features 6 songs delving deep into Neville Longbottom’s character!

May 21: Lady Parts – “Voldemort Under My Headscarf:” iTunes | Spotify | YouTube

May 29: Slytherin – “Dementor’s Kiss:” Bandcamp | iTunes | Spotify | YouTube

It’s a surprise new single by Slytherin, wizard rock’s premier black metal auteurs! This song shows you what a dementor’s kiss really feels like…

June 10: The Cruciatus Curse – TH1RTE3N album: Bandcamp

Equal parts hip hop, metal, and pop, the Cruciatus Curse’s long-awaited new album is a deeply personal exploration of the dark side, simultaneously introspective and boisterous!

What music would Hogwarts students be jamming to today? That’s the question Gnargles answered with their collaborative debut Potterpop album! All proceeds from it go to the Trevor Project, and it’s 100% worth every cent! Please note: only three of the 14 songs are currently available on Bandcamp and they are being released in batches on Spotify and iTunes—you can get all of the songs at once by donating to their GoFundMe campaign!

June 30: Wizrocklopedia Compilation Club #2: Wizard Rock Around the World album: Not publicly available—sign up here to get all four albums!

Squeaking in juuuust under the wire, the Wizrocklopedia Compilation Club released its second album in June! SO good! I am incredibly glad the sea shanty idea worked out; every song on it is so good!
And the Lovegoods have been teasing to record that song for so long I can’t believe that it ended up even more magnificent than I imagined!
And seriously, the characterization in MC Kreacher’s EP is some of the best & most nuanced in all of wizard rock…it’s truly unsurpassed!

It seems like a real popular choice–AND FOR GOOD REASON! I love all the songs on it!

The video for “I’ve Got Friends” by the Lovegoods made that song somehow even more perfect, it’s definitely a standout for me.

And of course I love the albums from the Wizrocklopedia Compilation Club so far – “Under Your Spell” by Luna (not) Lovegood and “Beste Freundin” by Voldi & the Morts are my faves there.

Yes, it has to be one of the best wizard rock videos ever! The tiny touches are wonderful.

& of course the ‘Pedia Comp club albums are PHENOMENAL!!! “Beste Freundin” balances so many different elements (that could be conflicting!) so beautifully & “Under Your Spell” is perfection itself (AND THAT GUITAR SOLOOOO)!

Thank you for putting this all together, Sagan! The amount of wrock released or rereleased in the past six months is impressive. I especially love the Wizrocklopedia Compilation Club albums so far, and the Hut on the Wrock album. My favourite, though, has to be the song “Houses Me” by Percy and the Prefects, because it’s so beautifully written and performed, and is one of the best from some of the best.

Yes! All those are so good, as folks in the other comments have noted! And yes. “Houses Me” is just so beautifully written in every way possible! I love it so!
