The Wrock Wreview: That’s So Gay

The Album

Hey y’all. I’m feeling pretty gay today, so I figured I would take this opportunity to review an album called That’s So Gay by Tianna and the Cliffhangers. Tianna was a huge reason why I started writing queer wrock, because I was so inspired by her courage to do something like that. I’m so glad I did, and I will always love and appreciate her for giving me the strength to channel my inner Gryffindor. This is a compilation of five queer songs about Harry Potter, Captain America, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and a One Direction fanfiction called “Butterfly Gun.” Let’s get gay!

The Tracks

First up is My Cursed Child Review. I have listened to this song for years and it never gets old. The lyrics poke fun at JKR for not making her (clearly queer) characters canonically gay. In a time where we continue to have problems with the author, this is refreshing to listen to.

I’m not a Marvel fan, so I’ve never seen Captain America. But End of the Line is a beautiful love song and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I particularly liked all of the different instrumentals and harmonies coming together to create the song as a whole. Tianna’s voice is so nice to listen to, and this song is such a great example of her incredible vocal performance.

O Captain is up next for all Star Wars fans. It’s a light-hearted song with amazing harmonies. I was jamming along to this as I was listening to it. It’s fresh and bouncy, and it brought a smile to my face.

Any proud Slytherins are sure to love The Slytherin Itch. It’s got a grungy feel and the vocals are gritty but smooth at the same time. The guitar instrumentals add to the vibe and I really liked it.

The last song of the EP is called The Train Surged On. It’s a lovely song about feelings, memories, and love. The harmonies are beautiful and I imagine that this would be the perfect song to listen to while looking out the window of a train or a bus.

In Summary

These five songs are such high quality and easy to listen to that I had a wonderful time. Smooth vocals and flexible instrumentals give the whole album a feeling of togetherness while also being flexible enough to create different sounds and vibes. It’s awesome that Tianna can create a comprehensive EP that combines so many different fandoms. I loved the entire thing, and I give it a rating of: Very Gay out of 10.
