The 2020 Wizard Rock Six Month Report: January-June, Part 3!

Welcome back, everyone, to the third and final part of the 2020 January-June Wizard Rock Six-Month Report, wherein I chronologically list all of the awesome wizard rock releases in the first half of 2020. If you missed them, I encourage you to go back and read parts one and two! There are a whole lot of jaw-droppingly amazing new releases in those posts. We jump back in to our list with a couple of slamming dubstep singles from this new Quebecois talent…

June 6: Slytherin-Dubs – “Chamber of Secrets:” Bandcamp | “The Chosen One:” Bandcamp

Amazing wizard rock dubstep from Quebec! Utilizing samples of various scenes from the movies, these two singles, released on the same day, will get you bopping!

June 7: Ghastly D and the Snakes – “Basilisk [Demo]:” Bandcamp

This single song by a scrapped wizard rock band from 2014-15 was recently released on Bandcamp. It’s not particularly impressive, just a short instrumental track–but it could evoke the creeping menace of the basilisk!

June 11: Katherine Elizabeth – “Joanne:” YouTube

Yes, it’s karaoke. But the lyrics to this parodic response to Rowling’s transphobia are so good that it doesn’t matter! Superbly satirical.

June 11: Totally Knuts – Rise Up, Wands Up album: Bandcamp

Totally Knuts’ fourth full-length album, incredibly written and recorded in SIX DAYS, responds brilliantly to the Black Lives Matter protests and J.K. Rowling’s TERFiness. Many of the songs should become anthems for the fandom!

June 16: Josh Slunk – Devil’s Snare EP: Bandcamp

This instrumental metal EP features 6 songs inspired by various aspects of the Harry Potter books. Wrocking and fun!

June 18: Swish and Flick – “If You Didn’t Come to Party (Pink Version):” Soundcloud | YouTube

This fresh version of Swish and Flick’s 2009 tune has new lyrics and remastered music. Definitely NSFW, but it’s super fun!

June 19: Harry and the Potters – Live on KUTX, 08.12.19 EP: No longer available for download, but can be streamed here!

This limited-edition EP was recorded in Austin, TX, radio station KUTX and was made available for download on Harry and the Potters’ Bandcamp for only three days. All proceeds went to DARE in Providence, RI, and One Struggle KC in Kansas City, MO. Hopefully, they’ll rerelease it at some point! In the meantime, fans can hear it on the Internet Archive.

June 21: AJ Solomon – “Nonbinary Wizard Anthem:” Bandcamp

AJ Solomon’s second wizard rock single is a tribute to all the nonbinary wizards, witches and wixes out there! It’s thought-provoking and well-written.

June 26: Kathryn Hoss – “Hermione Granger’s Not a Transphobe:” iTunes | Spotify | YouTube

Take that, JKR! Kathryn Hoss’s debut wizard rock song enumerates the hypocrisy in Rowling’s transphobia and reinstates listeners’ faith in the original characters’ good hearts—unlike their creator.

June 27: luneytunes – Board Your Ships EP: Bandcamp

The second EP by Swedish wrocker luneytunes focuses lyrically on the relationships between various Potter characters in its mellow wrock jams!

June 30: Muggle Mike – 5 singles: Bandcamp

Muggle Mike recently reissued 5 previously out-of-print singles on his Bandcamp page: “Hagrid’s on the Lam,” “Leaving in a Blue Ford Anglia,” “A Way Back,” and two versions of “After Party at Hagrid’s.” All super fun and worth your time!

And that’s everything! And quite an everything it was, indeed. Tell us what you liked in the comments below—and if we missed any releases, please email us at wizrocklopedia [at] gmail [dot] com! Come back in January for a retrospective of the wizard rock releases from July to December 2020! Don’t forget to support all these artists and wrock on! Thanks so much for reading.
