#MuggleMusicMonday with Nellie McKay

In the past, #MuggleMusicMonday has been slightly related to wizard rock or at least nerd culture in general. This week, I wanted to change things up a bit, so I picked one of my favorite artists who isn’t terribly well-known.

Nellie McKay has been releasing music since 2004, and includes the albums Get Away From Me, Pretty Little Head, and Obligatory Villagers. Her new album, Normal As Blueberry Pie – A Tribute to Doris Day, is due to be released on October 13th and includes 12 Day covers, as well as one original song.

There isn’t much music out there that I think everyone can agree on, but I have yet to find someone who doesn’t enjoy her music. Punks, metalheads, and die-hard pop fans alike find her to be catchy and talented. Nellie plays nearly every instrument on her albums, and her eclectic song styles and messages that range from political to her love of animals keep you listening. Check out some of her music below!

I love Nellie McKaye. There’s a fantastic interview with her on the Sound of Young America Podcast.

I think my favorite song of hers is Mother of Pearl.
