We all know of the rivalry that’s been going on between Harry Potter and Twilight fans for the past few years. And most of us have been guilty of adding wood to the pyre at least once (Don’t try to deny it. I know I’ve been caught in the act numerous times.). It can be fun to get someone riled up about something they love so much. But in April, we’ll have a chance to come together for an amazing event that includes both fandoms.

With a convention tailored to both wizards and vampires, one might be worried about disputes breaking out. But the organizer of AccioCon, Alley, is not. “There would be no winner,” she says about if Harry and Edward got into a fight. “They’re both too good to fight each other. They would be allies.” And the same goes for the fans. Both Alley and Erin Pyne from The House of Black are looking forward to combining the two fandoms, if only for awhile. Erin doesn’t think it would be awkward to play for Twilight fans because “we are all the same in sharing our excitement for stories that we love. Some people are Harry Potter fans, and some people are Twilight fans, but most are both and we can all understand how a great story can make us feel.”

AccioCon’s huge Wizard Rock show, “Night at the Wrockbury” will include over half a dozen amazing bands – Marked as His Equal, Hawthorn and Holly, The Remus Lupins, The Whomping Willows, Justin Finch-Fletchley and the Sugar Quills, and Brian from Draco and the Malfoys. The House of Black, Witherwings, and Fred Lives will even be playing some Twi-Rock at the Forks High School Prom. With a line-up as incredible as that, AccioCon should be any WizRock fans dream. And many Twilighters are looking forward to hearing Wrock for the first time.

So maybe this convention will be a step towards a truce amongst fans. As Alley says “It might not and it might. But at least we can try. And we should try. As members of the Harry Potter community we should try to be accepting to people. Whether this conference will help or not remains to be seen. But with so many different events taking place, there should be something for everyone.

Of course, Erin has her own plan of how to unite the Harry Potter and Twilight fans. “If Edward Cullen and Cedric Diggory were in a band together, they could be Cedward and sing about death and immortality.” Though Cedward won’t be performing, plenty of other bands will be, and I suggest that if you’re anywhere around Orlando, Florida, for the first weekend of April that you go and have an unforgettable time.
