Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jam: January 2025

Happy New Year! As 2024 ends and 2025 begins, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jam is here as usual with a new creative challenge. A new theme begins at the end of this post.

December’s theme was endings and beginnings.

Susannah of Your Wizard Rock Resource got us started with screenshots of her website over the years, from its beginning to now (with a bonus Susannah avatar in Lofi Girl style). Moving back in time, we go from the present polish to simpler styles, always with the same familiar turquoise or teal.

The Bookish Hufflepuff came up with two photographs and a collage showing important elements of her journey. She says:

Together, these three images tell a story. Before Leakycon 2024, I was trying to find my place in a community that had always supported me, but that was hard to still fit into. I tried really hard. Then I went to LeakyCon and found a space where my words could be heard and I fit in because of who I was, not who I had been. I am immensely grateful to my cancer survivor community for helping me learn the skills for being in a community, for making friends, and for amplifying my voice. When I went to LeakyCon I discovered I could apply those skills elsewhere and find a new home. The quilt symbolizes the past and the happy memories I want to retain, the collage ties it all together, and the third photograph shows the things I value most now. It’s the end of an era, and I’m seeing clearer. Nothing will ever be the same, least of all me, and I’m okay with that.

A quilt made of T-shirt squares with a pink border. The shirts mostly have logos from summer camps for children with cancer. Also among the squares are a Hermione "Fight Like a Girl" shirt, a shirt with Hogwarts school crests, and a tie dye shirt.

A digital collage made to look like pages in an open scrapbook. On the left are photos of a younger Celia, going through cancer treatment and smiling with loved ones. On the right are more recent photos of Celia, at wizard rock events with new friends and performing as The Bookish Hufflepuff. Three wizard rock quotes adorn what space remains. On the left, "I hope you keep the best of your memories. I love you because you were a friend to me" - DQ. On the right, "I lose myself - in the pages of your story. I lose myself - in the spaces in between. I lose myself - searching for a happy ending. Somewhere on the journey I find me" - The Blibbering Humdingers. Across the bottom, "It's the end of an era and I'm seeing clearer. Nothing will ever be the same!" - Oliver Boyd & the Remembralls.

An array of mostly wrock items, including T-shirts, an "I Wanna Wrock" paperback, a Hufflepuff teddy bear, a plush snowy owl, a Hostwitch Bess figurine and plush WZRD hat, and of course, a plush Hufflepuff badger in a "Resist" Santa hat. Everything is laid across Harry Potter blankets.

Thank you for sharing your beginnings and where you’ve ended up so far!

For January, let’s make the most of what’s left of the Year of the Dragon with dragons as our theme. Whether you take a photo, write a poem, sculpt, sing, or find your own medium, please share what you think up—and have fun!
