Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jam: April 2024

A "Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Jams" sweets label with red and white stripes and the text on a yellow scroll.

It’s a new month, and if you’re here for a creative challenge, that means things are looking up! Here at Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jam, we have a new theme every month to inspire creative work of all kinds.

Our Jam for this March was astronomy.

I made a quick Charlie Weasley song after finding out there was a total eclipse in 1999 with best viewing in Romania. You can listen to Eclipse 1999 here.

Lyrics:

The whole family’s in town, but I couldn’t leave the dragons
What if they’re scared?
They need me there
Dad gave me a specially charmed little camera
So I won’t miss the eclipse

Nearly time, I go down to the youngest of the dragons
The older ones know
They also draw close
I wonder if their eyes can filter light like my camera
So they can watch the eclipse

I needn’t have worried, I’m glad that I wondered
I’m glad I was there
The elders’ inner eyelids shield from the light
The youngest ones sleep in what they think is night
The silence
The shadows
The creatures by my side

Later on, I develop the film from the camera
The funniest thing
A fiery ring
The edge of the sun like the flame from the dragons
Who were with me in the eclipse

If you’re anywhere near the path of the solar eclipse coming this April 8th, but you don’t have the proper enchantments, then be sure to use safe nonmagical methods to view it. If you’re far away or clouded over, there will also be livestreaming of the total eclipse!

For April, let’s have a bit of fun. Our theme this month is puns. Whether you have a sunny disposition or you see things through a darker filter, I hope you’ll share some double-meanings with us. As usual, any medium is welcome, even Professor Trelawney.
