Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jam: February 2024

Welcome to Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jam, a monthly creative challenge. Thanks for joining us again!

In January, we had crossovers as our theme.

Sagan of Candle Wix created a song demo crossover between wrock and the book House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, which you can listen to here. I love seeing how wizards react to a new-to-them world!

Lyrics:

The American wizards came to solve a mystery
Why does everybody enter but no one ever leaves
They see the enormous staircase
They feel its cold embrace
Spells & wands can’t help you now
When the growl is in your face!

Wizards exploring the House of Leaves
Magical powers are no match for the-ee-eese
You can’t disapparate
Might as well accept your fate
Whatever wizard made this is a terrible tease

Voldemort’s cave ain’t got nothing on Ash Tree Ln
Good luck exploring it without going insane
And if the void opens up like BOOM
You know you’ll be doomed
If you don’t know which way is up how can you fly a broom???

Wizards exploring the House of Leaves
Magical powers are no match for the-ee-eese
You can’t disapparate
Might as well accept your fate
Whatever wizard made this is a terrible tease

Meanwhile, Hostwitch Bess of WZRD Radio Podcast put together an entire episode of crossover and multi-fandom songs, with the help of the Wizard Rock Discord. It’s quite a variety pack of artists and fictional worlds! You can listen to it all here.

I’d also like to give a shout-out to Daniel Kelly’s new song, Pocketses, which draws a delightful parallel between the first Harry Potter story and my favorite scene from The Hobbit.

This February is different from previous years of the Every Flavour Jam, as it is the first time we’ve had a February of a leap year. In punny celebration, our theme this month is frogs and toads.

You’re welcome to make anything from music to visual art and beyond. Whether you’ve taken part before or you’re new to the Jam, please, jump right in!
