The Wrock Wreview: Hard Toffee

The Album

I came across this album on Youtube in November, 2021 (which is when it was released). It includes eight tracks and is by a band called Hard Toffee. Let’s see what this little-known corner of Harry’s world has in store.

The Tracks

Harry’s Lullaby is the first song in the album. The instrumentals are smooth and catchy, and the lyrics of the lullaby are repetitive with a simple melody – two staples of a good lullaby. There are several different singers in this song, which eventually leads to overlapping voices at the end of the song.

We get into a rock feel in the next track, The Muggle Song. The words to this song are clever and funny, and my favorite part is the bassline.

Which Way Are You Turning (The Sorting Hat) is all about the four Houses of Hogwarts. There are two vocalists in this song, and there is a nice guitar solo in the middle. There are descriptions of different types of people waiting to be sorted… but where will they end up?

For all of you Quidditch fans out there, this next song is for you. Quidditch (Let the Seeker Through) tells us about the different balls used in the famous magical sport, as well as the various positions you could play. It’s got a neat transcendental sound to it.

I Want a Hippogriff is one of my top favorite songs from this album. It has a straightforward message, which you can figure out from the title, and it’s all about how cool it would be to own one of these incredible creatures. The whole song is amazing, but my favorite lyric is:

With wings like an eagle, the booty of a horse
The speed of a beagle, my best friend of course

A soft and beautiful flute introduces us to The Magic Mirror. The flute is accompanied by the sounds of a piano and running water. The piano picks up into a faster pace and is joined by drums and vocals. This song is about the Mirror of Erised and everything that Harry sees in it. The song ends in a way that is eerily similar to the beginning.

Fans of Hermione are sure to love this next song. It begins with a saxophone solo and then the vocals come in. The lyrics tell about memories made between the members of the Golden Trio, and how far they have come as friends together.

The final song of the album is called Save the Stone. This is a really fun song, with great harmonies and a good beat. I love the vocal performance from all the singers, and I was dancing in my seat the whole time.

In Summary

I am really happy that I found this album. I very much enjoyed the content, from witty lyrics to great instrumentals and different musical styles. The range of instruments that they use throughout the album was impressive, and everything sounded great when put together! Give it a listen and let us know what you think!
