The Wrock Wreview: Gnargles

The Album

There are three tracks available to listen to for free on the Gnargles album, by Gnargles. However, anyone who donates 10 dollars or more to their charity fundraiser on GoFundMe will receive a digital download of the ENTIRE 14 track Gnargles compilation! Well friends, that’s exactly what I did, and I’m going to review the whole thing for you now.

The Tracks

I can only describe Prefect Love as ethereal. It truly sounds like something you would hear on the radio – it is professionally done, has beautiful melodies, and an amazing sound.

Felix and I is an upbeat bop that will make you feel invincible. I love the subtle brass in the background, and how easy it is to dance to. I would definitely play this in a club to get everyone on their feet.

Look into the Mirror of Erised for this next song, as it transports the listener to another world. It’s a slower ballad that carries an important message. This one is a very lovely song.

Get ready to wrock out in the next track, Fell in Love with a Veela. It begins with a heavy rock sound, followed by softer sweet vocals that sing about the silly things one can do when they fall for a Veela. The chorus is my favorite part because it goes so hard.

I love the instrumentals in Patronus. The song is about Harry’s final walk toward Voldemort – and his own death. It’s powerful and emotional, evoking a strong sense of purpose to the listener.

Butterbeer is an upbeat and beautiful song that has a folk feel with its guitar, simple percussion, and single vocal. I really enjoyed this song – it reminded me of sunny days and cobblestone roads. There is an excellent instrumental solo break in the middle of the song.

We transition to a completely different sound with the next song, Precious Amortentia. This song sounds like something that would be played in an underground wizarding club. It’s got a robotic quality in the vocals, and a really cool backing track.

I’m obsessed with Knight Bus. It’s got a wonderful pop love song feel to it. I love the melody, especially during the chorus. This is one of my favorite songs on the album. The main singer did an amazing job bringing these lyrics to life.

If Our Love Was a Horcrux is such a good title. It’s a slower song with a great beat.

Need someone to light up your life? Lumos Girl is all about that one special person. If this came on my wizarding radio, I’d crank up the volume right away.

Send an Owl is a beautiful love song. My favorite part is the chorus:

I’ll send an owl to say I love you, and a thousand owls more
‘Cause one’s not enough when you feel like I’m feeling

Honey I Put My Dukes Up is a very sweet song (pun very much intended). The lyrics tell of mountains of candy, different brands of wizarding goodies, and enjoying the best place to find something sweet – Honeydukes!

Keeper is a flowy song that makes me feel like I’m flying high above the clouds as I search for someone to call my Keeper. The lyrics are very clever, and I like the way that parts of the melody have been pulled from childhood songs.

The final song on this album is called Deluminator. It has quiet whisper-like vocals that sound like wisps of fog on a dark night. The instruments in the background make me think of rain dripping off the edge of a roof.

In Summary

I am blown away by the variety and quality of this album. Each track is an absolute bop and the album has something for everyone. I really enjoyed listening to every single song and I was looking forward to the next one because I didn’t know what was coming next! Just like a bag of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans. It was well worth $10, and I highly recommend you treat yourself to the entire album. Also, the money raised goes toward a great cause!
