The Wrock Wreview: Snake Bite

The Album

Athena Reddy, the person behind the band Nagini, has an album entitled Snake Bite that was rereleased on March 19, 2021. They currently do acting work (check out the link above) and I’m very excited to see what we have to listen to today! Ssssso, without further ado, let’sssss go!

The Tracks

Petunia’s Song is up first, a story about Lily’s sister dealing with what she doesn’t understand and how that affects her emotions. This is my first time listening to Nagini, and I have to say that I really love their style. It reminded me of Avril Lavigne, which is a compliment because I love Avril. With only vocals and guitar, I got a great sense of emotion and power from the performance.

One of my favorite minor characters from the books is Merope Gaunt. Merope’s Letter is from her point of view, and her stance against her father. She finally stands up to him and lets him know where she has gone and what she has done, despite knowing how he would react. Again, the emotions in this performance were very much noted and appreciated. I also loved the harmonies.

There’s a rock-band sound in the next song, Narcissa Malfoy. It has drums, harmonies, and guitar, which all come together to create an amazing song. I love the idea of Narcissa schooling Bellatrix on what love is.

A gorgeous clarinet and guitar introduce the next song, Say His Name. It’s a love song to Voldemort, and weirdly it works! It’s a beautiful song that comes in at two minutes exactly.

Me and Voldy (explicit) is a hilarious spoken word story about how to make a hot dog into a horcrux. A song follows the story, from Nagini’s perspective. She reminds Voldemort that she is always by his side.

A full band backs up the next song, James Isn’t Cool. The title pretty much sums it up, and the song is quick and fun, packed with awesome instrumentals and background vocals. It ends very abruptly, which adds to the humor.

Magical metaphors make up Wizard Love Jam. From the Room of Requirement to the Mirror of Erised, the singer tells us about what they think of the person they love, and the lengths they would go for them.

There’s a piano introducing the next song – which is also a jam – Draco’s Jam. The instrumentals combination in this song was my favorite. The lyrics were also meaningful from Draco, which on a deep level reminded me of Harry’s purpose in the books as well.

At just under a minute, Hufflepuff Boyfriend is the last song on the album. It’s a short song about how sometimes a Slytherin and a Hufflepuff relationship just doesn’t work out.

In Summary

I really enjoyed listening to this album. Every single song was great, from the lyrics to the vocals to the range of instruments used. I am looking forward to listening to more of Nagini’s music and you can bet I’ll do another Wrock Wreview of them at some point in the future! It was a super enjoyable experience and I hope you will agree! I rate this album 7/7 horcruxes.
