The Wrock Wreview: The Remedial Potions Singles

The Album

Today’s Wrock Wreview is going to cover a compilation of songs released by The Remedial Potions from circa 2007-2008. The Remedial Potions were a Slytherin band, and most of their music is currently lost. These seven singles were rereleased on July 17, 2020, simply entitled The Singles.

The Tracks

You can hold out your wand hand to get on the Knight Bus. This jazzy song has strong vocals, percussion, and piano combined with fun and witty lyrics. The vocalist sounds like singing this song is a whole lot of fun, and when I inevitably sing along to it in the future, I’m sure it will be!

We are introduced to Our New Celebrity in this next track. It’s in a minor key and also upbeat, with a cool synth in the background. Taking a line from Professor Snape, the title of the song tells us what it’s all about – Harry Potter and all the wild things he does in his time at Hogwarts.

Hit the Ground Running is a passionate love song centered around Lavender Brown and Ron Weasley. The heartbreak is revealed in the vocal performance, and the instrumentals and backup vocals match the energy throughout.

The next track is a demo called Devil’s Snare (Demo). It’s a good thing Hermione pays attention in Herbology, because otherwise the Golden Trio may have had a quick and prickly ending. This demo has a lot of high energy which makes it very fun to listen to.

A waltz called The Animal Inside gives me major Jekyll and Hyde vibes as Remus Lupin describes what his life is like when the full moon rises. It’s dark, wild, and creepy, and I love it. The piano was particularly impressive to me in this one.

Cho Chang makes her debut appearance in this song as the Ravenclaw Seeker. I am obsessed with the guitar performance, and the vocals go all out for the romantic lyrics as a love song to Cho.

The Boy From Spinner’s End marks the last track on this compilation of singles. With a harpsichord-sounding guitar and swinging piano, the vocals take on an almost rap-like quality with excellent rhymes and clever rhythmic changes. I loved the words of the chorus especially, and this quickly became one of my favorite songs on the comp.

In Summary

Each of these singles brought a unique individuality that I very much enjoyed. Everything from the lyrics to the vocals to the instrumental performances was awesome and I loved listening to this comp. If you have more songs from The Remedial Potions, please let us know! We’re constantly on the lookout to find more of their buried treasure. Since there are seven singles on this comp, I give it a rating of 7/7 Harry Potters.
