An Exhaustive List of Wizard Rock Livestreams in 2020

Hi! I’m usually over at Your Wizard Rock Resource, so I guess this post is a crossover event. Unless you’re fairly new, you’ve probably noticed the high volume of online wizard rock shows last year. So, I’ve decided to hop over to the Wizrocklopedia and do what I love best: organise and present information about wizard rock. Namely, making an exhaustive list of wizard rock livestreams in 2020. Let’s do this!

This page contains some excellent artwork — click each image (or right click and open in a new tab) to view it in full.

Lunch Hour Live

Ashley Hamel has a series of live wizard rock shows on Facebook, which are sponsored by her Patreon supporters. She carried this tradition into 2020, blessing us every month with her delightful music. Although this series seems to be on hiatus, she delivered eight shows, which you can watch or rewatch at your leisure. (For the March show, see her performance in O.W.L. FEST below.)

O.W.L. FEST

When isolation hit in March, Darvil from Percy and the Prefects kicked us off by organising the Online Wrock Live Festival, which was an extraordinary feat of planning and ambition and paved the way for many shows that followed. This event was hosted entirely through Facebook Live and involved jumping from stream to stream. Despite the occasional technical issue, I was thoroughly impressed by how there was minimal time lost between each performance, allowing the whole event to run relatively on time. Bygonya also made a fantastic Google Doc of all the livestream and band links, which you can view here.

March 28 — Percy and the Prefects, The Swedish Shortsnouts, POTTÖRHEAD, Abby Ritter, Hawthorn & Holly, Leah Hamm (Hawthorn & Holly), Karl-Johan, Pussycat Dolores, Kirstyn Hippe, Ashley Hamel, The Lovegoods, The Purebloods, Flitwick and the Charmers, Muggle Snuggle, Ludo Bagman and the Trash, The Arkadian, Kalysta Flame, Grace Kendall, Alas Earwax!, Toucan Dubh, The Blibbering Humdingers, Losing Lara, The Mudbloods, Draco and the Malfoys, Lauren Fairweather, Tonks and the Aurors

On the heels of the success of O.W.L. FEST came the four-week Wrock From Home series by Adam Dubberly of The Mudbloods, with gorgeous promotional posters by Riley Wackernagel. Like its predecessor, this series was also hosted on Facebook, with new streams being posted for each performance. Again, Bygonya made an excellent Google Doc of all the video and band links, and you can view it here (each event is on a different sheet).

Miscellaneous Shows

There were also many shows throughout the year. Most, but not all, were recorded and are available for rewatch.

Lastly, both Totally Knuts and Tonks and the Aurors host monthly livestreams for their Patreon supporters, and Tonks also streams frequently on Instagram Live.

Exhaustive list? More like exhausting. Well, no matter what happens in 2021, as someone who lives as far from North America and Europe as it is possible to get, I have definitely appreciated being able to watch wizard rock live through the magic of the internet, and I hope this new tradition will continue into the future. In fact, just this week, Darvil from Percy and the Prefects announced the return of O.W.L. FEST, which is scheduled for March 26-27, 2021! I’m sure it’s going to be AMAZING!

To make sure you always know about upcoming wizard rock livestreams, make sure you join the Wizard Rock Revival Facebook group, give the ‘Pedia a follow on Twitter, keep up with the WZRD Radio Podcast and come hang out in the Wizard Rock Discord (created by yours truly).

What shows did YOU see live? Which was your favourite? Are there any I missed? Let me know in the comments!
