Question… Wednesday?

question_tuesday

Oops! We got so wrapped up with posting our MySpace editorial followup yesterday that we forgot to post our weekly question!

Over the years, the Wizard Rock EP of the Month Club brought us some fantastic releases – from the Mudbloods EP, Big Whompy, Gred and Forge, Dumbledore, and more. We always talk about how memorable those EPs were, so this week we want to go in a slightly different direction –

What’s your pick for the most overlooked/underrated EP of the Month Club release?

Which EP do you find yourself going back to over and over and wishing lasted ten times longer than it did, or got more appreciation from wizard rock fans? Let us know in the comments below!

One of the greatest EP’s to have been part of the Wrock of the Month club was when world famous musician Bob Dylan contacted Harry and the Potters and asked if he could contribute a cover album of their best work.

The Bob Dylan / HatP Cover Album is a work of art

I love the Bob Dylan one! I remember standing in a hallway at Terminus and Andrew Slack telling me that he and Paul DeGeorge had this great idea to do HatP songs as Bob Dylan. Then about a year later it showed up in my mail box!

I do believe Dumbledore’s “Lemon Drop the Beat” is not nearly popular enough. That EP is pure gold from start to finish. Right down to the cover art.

    lol thx Camie 🙂

And the only thing better than Lemon Drop the Beat was seeing it performed live, omg, so much insanity.

Hahahahahahaha, I know. I was able to see it done live as well. So awesome.

The two albums listed above are awesome… But I have to give some props to MC Kreacher for Alone in the Dark – the entire EP is phenomenal.
Also, Remus and the Lupuns – Born to Howl is another awesome, purely only possible because of the EP of the Month Club.

I also have to give some credit to my favorite song from Alex – Origin – that originally came off his wizard rock of the month cd – Horcruxes and Hand Me Downs.

A lot of great one off songs came off of these EPs.

It was Roonil Wazlib’s EP that gave me my favorite wizard rock song of all time, so completely agree that the EP Club gave us a lot of great songs.

Overlooked? Hmmmm. Well, my obvious gut reaction is GSS’ “Death To Humans”, which was largely ignored by everyone who isn’t me, but giving the rather unsettling amount of love I pour on that album, I’m not sure I can use it here.

I thought “Penelope” was absolutely phenomenal, and I didn’t see it get that much attention (as far as I remember at least). Also, the Basilisk In Your Pasta and GCR2 both quietly put out very solid EPs that are definitely worth a second glance if you didn’t pay much attention to them the first time.

And of course, we gotta give big props to the real best EP of all time – Mermaids Above Water’s “Anything You Can Do I Can Do Wetter”.

Basilisk in Your Pasta – good call. I sometimes play that EP and just completely rock out to it.
