Question Tuesday

I’m not actually going to Infinitus, but all the anticipatory buzz is making me very excited for everyone who is!
So, this week I ask: What’s your favorite thing about cons? Getting to see lots of wizard rock? Barely eating/sleeping for 3 days? Falling asleep with your best fandom friends right next to you?

I love getting to see all the different bands at cons because they tend to be extraordinary shows, but nothing beats being surrounded by so much love and friendship for a few days. I’ll miss you all, and you better have an amazing time!

To me, besides being a time away from work, where I can actually enjoy life for a change. I also treat cons as a big HP networking event.

I get to talk to people at a much more personal level one on one who I only really get to see once a year.

We share ideas, experiences, etc. And usually the inspiration I get from this is enough to fuel me for most of the next year.

Its so cool to be in an environment where everyone is as big a Potter-nerd as I am (or even more so). I love the random conversations that strike up amongst complete strangers. I love when some kind of fandom, inside joke is made and everyone laughs (because you always have to explain the humor to your muggle friends). I love the costumes. I love passing a guitar around in some courtyard or lounge and just singing with people. I love the wizard rock shows. I love being one of just a few male attendees.

With great sadness I have to tell that I have never been to an HP con…very sad I know. Thus the challanges of living in New Zealand.
I hope to change this fact with Wrockstock 2011…not EXACTLY a con, but none the less causes my blood to ruch with excitement whenever I think about going!

As far as cons in general, I love feeling you get from that one (or more) time a year where you can completely be yourself without a hint of fear. The infectious atmosphere that causes you to be outragious. For me, it walking through central Wellington (New Zealand) in full cosplay costume with a group of similarly attires friends (new and old) not caring you are so inexplicable odd and confusing to the general populus.
Also getting to meet multitudes of like-minded individuals all together in one place, all at one time. People you would otherwise never meet of approch, people you could pass on the bus and never get to know under any other circumstances.
Sigh, cons a great, no matter the fandom.

GAWD! I would be at Infinitus in a blink if it wasn’t for the fact that it will take me the best part of a year to save up to fly over for next years Wrockstock…bothersome global distances <3

I hope everyone enjoys the stuffing out of Infinitus! I expect to hear heaps and heaps of stories and see millions of photos!!
    Love Expecto~

I love the easy camaraderie among friends and strangers. It doesn’t matter when I met them, the simple fact that we’re sharing an experience makes it easy to get along with just about everyone. And Scott was right, some of the best night of my life have happened when friends have sat down in a hotel room, or a courtyard or a lobby and passed around a guitar.

Also, I am an academic. I’m a graduate student and a teacher. I read Shakespeare for fun. I love going to the panels and hearing other people’s thoughts and new finding on our favorite books. There are so many angles and things to discuss, that I find something new every time I read. I’ve presented at conferences, and I love talking about some obscure or really specific aspect of the books with intelligent people who understand why it’s important.

Well, I’m leaving for Infinitus tomorrow… and it’s my first con ! So I don’t really know yet. But I think what’s great about cons is that you get to meet people who like the same thing as you.

    I just can’t wait =D
