Question Everday, part 5

And the categories keep on coming!

Best Collaboration
Best Folk/Country/Blues Song
Best Techno/Electronica Song

For Best Collaboration, I have to say that ‘Don’t Let Me Explode’ by The Whomping Willows with Lauren Fairweather has some pretty amazing harmonization. That whole album has some other great collaborations, too – Mark from Ministry of Magic and Georgia and Victoria from Riddle™ come to mind.
Tonks and the Aurors’ ‘Taking You Back’, with Alex Carpenter is also lots of canon fun, with Remus and Tonks arguing throughout the song.

For Folk/Country/Blues, we have the whole An Anthology of Slytherin Folk Music by Draco and the Malfoys. The Buttermellows also fits here, with ‘Dearest, Delusional’ being my personal favorite. Some Kwikspell could definitely fit into this category as well!

As for Techno/Electronica, I think The Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office’s whole album is a serious contender.

When did Romilda Vane and the Chocolate Cauldrons and Georgia from Riddle TM release that “Under The Stairs” song again?

Nearly everything The First Task Is Dragons has ever done counts as techno or electronia – we do play instruments, we swear, we just never have enough time to practice. We’re pursuing higher education or something.

Question: if a song was released in 2008 but the album it’s on was released in 2009, is it eligible?

    Techno/Electronica- The Empty Corridor-Miss Parkinson
Wizard Rock Boyfriend- Miss Parkinson (It’s half electronic, half eletric guitar, I think it’s pretty cool)

    Folk/Country/Blues- Anything by the Buttermellows!

Collaboration: The Whomping Willows/Mark Jennings – A Conversation With My Demons. The Best. HANDS DOWN.

  4. Freya Avatar

@Marauder: As long as it was released somehow in 2009, it counts!

  5. Jon Rosenthal Avatar

I’m quite fond of “I wanna be a Wizard” with Danny Dementor and Alex Carpenter

  6. Marauder Avatar

Seriously? OMG, our first two albums and some of the songs we released that haven’t been released on an album yet are all eligible for the WRPCAs!

I’m going to be totally shameless. I would love it if you all voted for “Mull Things Over” by us for Techno/Electronica. You can listen to it on our player.

If you don’t vote for us, I suggest something by Luna’s Ceiling. All their songs are fantastic.

  7. Dawlish and the Archies Avatar

I would say Luna’s Ceiling for best techno/electronica, but I would actually wait until next year’s WRPCAs, because the album with the new versions f the songs will be released this year, and it will be EPIC. But I probably will still vote for the 2009 mix of “Hide No More” for best song in this category.

Also, best collab from DatH would definitely be “Walk” with the beautifully haunting voices of RiddleTM, which, besides the Malfoy’s Christmas song from JS2, is in my opinion their best work. It all came together so well.

Also, The Lost Diadems and I, Dawlish, had a collab song called “One Day”, that I happen to think is pretty nifty.

Lastly, big ups to Kwikspell and Buttermellows, but I think I’d have to give folk/country/whatever to “This Land Is My Land” by DatM. Also, I was considering “Another Vodka For Voldie” by Statutory Snape, but it’s really more punk than anything else. Oh, and that one Creevey Crisis country April Fool’s song.

    Best Collaboration
“The Burrow” by Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office and RiddleTM

I have three other songs by less… popular? artists that I’d like to toss out, but I’m not sure when they were released. If they’re 2009, expect another comment.

Anything by The Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office, Ministry of Magic, Malfoy Manor, The House of Black, or Severus and the Snapes for best electronica.

FIRSTLY, THANK YOU FOR LIKING “DEAREST, DELUSIONAL”. And secondly, thanks for the mention! 😀

Best Collaboration: It’s a Ginger! by Statutory Snape & KwikSpell
Best Folk/Country/Blues Song: Ravenclaw Crush or Voldemort Killed the Hufflepuff Star By Kwikspell
    or
Leave You Behind by How Airplanes Fly
    or

I don’t know if it came out in 2009, but “Potion Master Blues” by The Prefect Project is awesome.

  14. Art Avatar

“Potion Master Blues” is from their 2008 album Night Rounds. It is quite good, though.

    Dawlish, what is DatH?

A lot of Swish and Flick’s stuff probably fits better in rap/hip-hop, but stuff like “Astoria Greengrass” and “Luna Love Me Good” is electronica, right?

Folk: “When the Summer Ends” – Sweetwater All-Stars – is that song from 2009 or 2010? And how can I hear that How Airplanes Fly song you guys recommended?

Thanks Art, I wasn’t sure if they had actually released any albums. Also, for best collab., there are several collabs. (with Alex Day) on the Parselmouth’s album “Spattergroit” worth considering.

PS: DatH is “Demons at the Helm,” the album by The Whomping Willows.

@Art yes, “When the Summer Ends” was a 2009 song (funfact: I was present for elevator tour 2009! XD).

Best Collaboration: Well. Not to toot my own horn, but A Conversation With My Demons might be the best song I’ve ever written/produced, and Mark Jennings might be the most talented vocalist I’ve ever encountered. So.. this might be the first time I vote for myself? haha

Best Folk/Country/Blues Song: This Land Is My Land, Draco and the Malfoys.

hmm, i might have to say “only power remains” (MoM and nina) for collab.
and yep, this land is my land for folk/country/blues

  19. Art Avatar

@Trudy: Might?!?!? Of course you have to say that! Did you *hear* how hauntingly incredible Nina’s voice was against Mark’s? I played that on repeat for like three days.

P.S. That was the first time I’ve ever @ed someone. It was kind of fun! I guess MLIA.

    Dear Wizard Rock Awards,

I would like to submit my recommendations for winning songs in the following categories:

Best Collaboration: “Days in Our Lake” by the Giant Squidstravaganza featuring his long-lost twin brother. Hank
Best Folk/Country/Blues Song: “the Blues” by the Giant Squidstravaganza
Best Techno/Electronica Song: “Death to Science Address (Dec. 23, 2006)” by the Giant Squidstravaganza

In response to any haters – I’m looking at you Dawllsh and the Archies – everyone knows that I didn’t win any awards last year. I think this makes it obvious that votes for any of my compositions on last year’s ballot were disqualified because my triumphant album, Death to Humans, was not actually released until 2009.

Sometimes it takes a while for genius to be recognized. I hope that this year the Academy will finally smarten up. I really need the prize money.

    Your friend,
    the Giant Squidstravaganza

Would The Whomping Willows count as folk?

  26. Freya Avatar

‘We’re Not in Hogwarts Anymore’ by The Whomping Willows is definitely folk/country/blues, and you could make an argument about other songs on Demons at the Helm as well.
For TPP, I think ‘Sunshine and Daisies’ would qualify.
