#MuggleMusicMonday Tackles the 8-Bit Weezer Album

Instead of focusing on a single Muggle band today, I have decided instead to share with you an album that is available for free download from an awesome site, Pterodactyl Squad. I know I am a big fan of the band Weezer and that there are a ton of other Wizard Rockers out there with a similar love.

One day I asked my friend Z. from Hipster Please for some nerdcore recommendations. Among many other things, Z. pointed me in the direction of this freaking awesome compilation of Weezer music re-worked in 8-bit.

If you have never heard of 8-bit music, it is music that is created with Nintendo consoles. The original ones. However, I’ll leave the rest of the exploration to you. Check out the blog about the album and definitely take the time to download it today!

Not to be a stickler, but Chiptunes go beyond just the original Nintendo consoles. All sorts of SID chips are used, and emulation is also an accepted form of making music.

If you do likey the chiptunes, you should check out http://www.8bitpeoples.com/ and my favorite chiptune artist: http://bit.shifter.net/

If you dig more mainstream stuff, Beck released a couple of chiptune remixes of his songs as a single a couple years back. I think it was called Gameboy Variations.

This is actually kind of hilarious in light of what I emailed you about, Dinah. I happen to have Z’s ‘Old Nerdy Bastard’ album, in which there are 4 nerdcore remixes of wrock songs.

I think this is a great album to bring people into the chiptune fold if they haven’t been already. I should also mention, that if you highlight the area of text between the 14th track and the “ZIP File” link there is a little extra surprise there!

Also, another site for amazing chiptunes is http://iimusic.net that place has a lot of original albums by the artists who appear on the Weezer compilation as well.
