Question Tuesday

As this is something I’d like to do myself some day, I’m curious about everyone else’s personal choices in the matter…

If you could have a Wizard Rock birthday party and could have any bands from anywhere in the world play, which bands would you invite? You are limited to 3!

One thing I’d like to focus on for this would be dance-ability. I want bands that can wrock like there’s no tomorrow and get people dancing with me. Because I start to feel awkward when I’m the only one out dancing. But there should also be a nice balance of songs that don’t require quite as much effort to keep us from overheating, etc. In addition, I put more emphasis in my choices on bands I have either never seen, or very rarely even have the opportunity of seeing perform live. So considering that, here’s my list: Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office, Danny Dementor, and the Weasel King.

Let me just tell you…. that list took me an extremely long time to arrive at. So don’t be afraid to take a little time and get back to us. Just don’t forget to come back!

My #1 choice with out a doubt would be MoM! And then #2 would be TRL and number #3 The Mudbloods. =]

Have to go with The Remus Lupins, Ministry of Magic, and I’m torn for my third choice between The Whomping Willows and Draco and the Malfoys.

  3. Janae (MC Lady Lumos) Avatar

    1. Swish & Flick
    2. Ministry of Magic
    3. The Remus Lupins

  4. Aelfrita Avatar
    Aelfrita

I would also choose Ministry of Magic, Draco and the Malfoys, and Danny Dementor.

  5. Maggie Avatar

Oh man. Three is just too limiting! But if you insist:
    Gred and Forge
    Draco & the Malfoys
    MoM

I selected them for dance-ability, as you suggested. If I could expand my list to “people I would want just chilling in my living room, jammin’ and hanging out at said party” it would be
    the Willows
    the Myrtles
    the Parselmouths

Ooo this is so difficult. So since it said invite to play, I include myself as a non-counted wrocker. So I still have three, YAY! Lulz.

I would definately want people who are talented and dance-able, with good energy, who will get muggles into it.

So these are what I have to choose from:

    Ministry of Magic
    Misuse of Muggle Artifacts
    House of Black
    The Whomping Willows
    The Weasel King
    Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls
    Draco and the Malfoys

Draco and the Malfoys are in. They’re just… awesome.

I met all the guys from MoM, they’re pretty awesome guys. But so is Erin Pyne and Matt Maggiacomo. The Weasel King was one of the main reasons I’m so into wizard rock now. And OBatR is just uber talented.

Now comes the hard part… choosing two more.

I think the line up that people, including myself, would be the most happy with would be…

    Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls
    Ministry of Magic
    Draco and the Malfoys

GOD THAT WAS A HARD DECISION.

I feel so bad for not choosing Matt. It was between him and MoM, but I think the muggles would like MoM more. I still love you Matt! You can come and wrock out in my back yard any day!

  7. Dinahsaur Avatar

Janae, Swish and Flick were my fourth choice… but to be honest, I originally started with a list of about a dozen. Many of the bands mentioned thus far were on my list as well. Not all, but most of them.

Some others from my original list:

Shrieking Shack Disco Gang, Diagon Alley, Basilisk In Your Pasta, Creevey Crisis, the Curse Breakers, and many more. I had trouble limiting myself in the end. XD

  8. obockstal Avatar

I’d ask the Blibbering Humdingers. Scott and Kirsten are so funny and so nice people.
Then Tonks and the Aurors, I love her songs and her voice.
And finish with Swish and Flick and/or House of Black to dance into the night.

  9. juan Avatar

    I’d really love to have:

Christian, OBatR. He’s just incredibly talented- and super smart. So to have him at my party to hear his music and thoughts would be quite a treat.
The MoM guys. They’re just incredibly musicians and have the energy to even make a dementor happy.
and Erin just brings a kind of vibe that for my BDay would be awesome, and she’s very talented sooo: House of Black

  10. Stine Avatar

It’s hard picking just three, but I think I would have to go with The Remus Lupins, Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls and Ministry of Magic. They’re three of my favorite bands, and I simply couldn’t NOT include either of them… Tonks and the Aurors and The Moaning Myrtles would come in as very close fourths.

  11. Laura! Avatar

    OOOH, A TOUGHIE.

I have to say Ministry of Magic, because those boys can start a dance party like no other.
Harry and the Potters, definitely, because they are always so incredibly energetic; and if we’re getting into scheduling things, I’d have HatP play last and absolutely bring the house down.
Third on the list … Tonks and the Aurors, partially because I’d want some balance between female and male vocals, and partially I want to be Steph Anderson When I Grow Up.

  12. Joella Avatar

Oh god, this is so hard.

I like what Shannon said; MoM, TRL, and the Mudbloods. But then I have to think about the others… Whompy, TatA, OBatR, DatM… ughhh. So hard! Why’d you have to limit us to three, Dinah?!

Uhhhmm…. I think I would have to go with what Shannon said: MoM, TRL, the Mudbloods.

  13. Whompy Avatar

    1. Harry and the Potters
    2. MC Kreacher
    3. Swish & Flick

    Bam. Best party ever. 🙂

  14. Georgia Riddle Avatar

Agree with Whompy! HatP, MC Kreacher and Swish and Flick. Although I’d invite Bradley and Brian along too! 😀

  15. Hope Avatar
    Hope

I would warm up with JFF, then go to the Whomping Willows, and have a big dance blow out with Ministry of Magic. Though I do argue that if it’s my birthday and I can party how I want to, so I would add a cool down and relax band. That would soooooo be Thomas and Finnigan! I love those guys! I wish they would tour!

This is a really tough one, but I would have to go with Swish and Flick, Ministry of Magic, and Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls.

    Mine would be:
    1. Ministry of Magic (ooooh what a wonderful dream… 😉 )
    2. Oliver Boyd and The Remembralls
    3. Riddle TM

Harry and the Potters – Partly because I haven’t gotten to see them live yet! Particularly though, I’ve been digging their recent intimate shows, like the cave recording.
JFF&tSQ – Going off the assumption that most people at my party wouldn’t be wizard rock fans, Justin’s songs are fun and easy to sing along to even if you’ve never heard them before. Plus, he just puts on an entertaining show!
Tonks and the Aurors – Because Steph is just that awesome.

Well first off is The Mudbloods. Just, hands down. No question.

    After that… idk D:

I guess Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls cause I’ve never seen him and that’s a travesty.

And for the last band… The Moaning Myrtles, for the same reason as OBatR?

That was really tough but I guess I’m going for a more laid-back birthday, rather than a dance-party birthday.

  20. Dinahsaur Avatar

“So hard! Why’d you have to limit us to three, Dinah?!”

*laughs evilly* Because I’m evil!!! Bwahahahahahahaha!

Okay, so anyone who knows me can tell you that I’m an extreme Hufflepuff in a very not evil way. So real answer? Because it’s more realistic. If I hadn’t limited us all to 3, we all would have 20 band lists. I know I would have one.

Incidentally… I’m only limiting us to 3 bands to invite to PLAY… I’d be inviting practically everyone else for the party, naturally… and if they happened to join the bands playing for a song or two, or played small acoustic sets in corners throughout the rest of the party, I certainly wouldn’t mind. 😉

  21. Russ Avatar

    Gred & Forge

The neighbors won’t be too thrilled, but heck with ’em, it’s my party and I’ll mosh if I want to.

  22. Kenz S Avatar

This was actually for fairly easy for me 🙂

    1) Oliver Boyd & The Remembralls. Hands down. I’ve a) never seen him in concert before, though I did meet him after Portus (boy is he an awesome fella,) and b) his voice is absolutely gorgeous, and his music is top-notch.

    2) RiddleTM. Victoria & Georgia both have really awesome voices–definitely up at the top as far as female vocals in wrock is concerned–and they write songs and music fantastically well! 🙂

    and…

    3) The Weasel King. I never got to see him play at Wrockstock II, and I absolutely love his music!

  23. dcsbelle Avatar

Okay, if I have to limit it to three then it would be (in alphabetical order) Draco and the Malfoys, Ministry od Magic and Swish and Flick. I want people dancing and jumping at my party; who cares about the ceilings anyway?

Swish and Flick would TOTALLY play at a birthday party. Seriously.

    My list:

Hardest question ever! Just 3?! Well, I suppose I’d have to go with Ministry of Magic (they do an amazing live show and they are the all time best wrock band to dance to), The Weasel King (I absolutely love his music and would love to see him live, but sadly he never does shows, so I’d have to choose him), and The Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office (for the same reasons as the WK and because their songs are great for dancing). Please let me choose Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls too, though. Pretty please.

1 The Remus Lupins – they have soo many good songs, both dance songs and swaying songs.
2 The Moaning Myrtles – the two off them also have a load of good song both as a band and individually. I also love their humor and their voices.
3 The Parselmouths – also for their humor and their voices.

All other wrockers would totally be invited too and Hank Green. It would be the best Bday EVER!!!!

I spent a couple of hour thinking about this & I ended up with 2 different party scenerios:
Party A-open up with The Shrieking Shack Disco Gang, because their old school new wavey sound would get the party off right. Then get all hard core with Swish and Flick(of course I’d encourage Stacy to be as naughty as she wanted to be!)And then end the night with an epic dance party, courtesy of Erin & House of Black!!!!
    Party B-
Start off with The Hermione Crookshanks Experience(never seen her live)and then get more rockin’ with RiddleTM,finally everyone goes nuts for Tonks and the Aurors!!!Wrockin’ time for all!

Fawkes, The HMS Wolfstar, and The Giant Squidstravaganza, because I now that I will never see the first two live, and am pretty sure the same goes for the GSS. I mean, it would be possible for me to see Swish and Flick or MC Kreacher shows, (I’d just have to spend a lot of money flying) not so much for these bands.

Fawkes is the first wiz-rap band I got into, and it’s a shame he hasn’t added anything for over a year. Everything but “Gears and Cranks” is absolutely AMAZING.

The HMS Wolfstar only released two songs, but one of them, “Give Me The Moon”, is one of the best wrock songs ever. That song, plus GCR2’s “The Moon and the Stars” turned me into a Remus/Sirius shipper, just because the songs were so great. Also, it’d be cool to have Swedes at my party.

Lastly, Death To Humans was the best wizard rock album released last year, and the funniest wizard rock album ever released. Also, we’d probably have to go underwater for this portion of the party, and who doesn’t want an underwater birthday party?

This question is killing me. My question will probably change after Wrockstock, but here we go:

The Ministry of Magic (I love dancing to their songs and I think all the muggles I invite will enjoy them)

The Remus Lupins (whom I haven’t seen live yet which is ridiculous, plus some songs we don’t have to bounce, to give our poor knees a rest)

(at this point I kind of drew a blank, but then:)
The Mudbloods (I love their songs and that Creevey Thursday video made me smile for two days straight)

I like the clarification, Dinah, so I can have lots of awesome people at my party too.

  43. Maggie Avatar

Last night I had a dream in which this actually happened. It must have been epic, because I woke up smiling, but all I can remember is running around my apartment despairing that I don’t own enough cute matching Ikea glasses for everyone’s drinks.

You know you’re too into wizard rock when…………….. ahem.

Also, this is mildly off-topic, but have any of you wrock folks ever considered writing a wrock version of the school song? I’m not sure if there’s copyright problems to be had (since the lyrics, of course, are Jo’s), but I propose that different wrock bands all write different versions…. and then all play them together at the same time at wrockstock/other events. The cacophony would be amazing, and probably what Dumbledore loves so much about everyone “pick their favorite tune, and off we go!”

  44. Whompy Avatar

Zivlok: I have so much respect for you for saying that the Giant Squid’s album was the best of last year. It takes a special kind of person to even get through that entire album without going insane, but to actually LOVE it requires… well, a very offbeat sense of humor, and a fair amount of patience. 🙂 I think it’s a legitimate work of artistic genius on the part of its creator(s), and I’m glad to know others feel the same way.

  45. Freya Avatar

Even though it’s my birthday, I’m a Libra and very big on making sure everyone is happy, so I’d go with:

    1) Voldemort for all my metal head friends

    2) Swish and Flick for all the hip-hop/sexy girl fans

    3) Basilisk in Your Pasta for all the francophones

And I’m going to cheat and say that the rest of the community is invited, and after the three bands play, it’s karaoke time.

(Seriously, my birthday is in a few weeks. What do we think the chances of making this happen are? ;))

  46. WizardRockDA Avatar

Ok, having received Dinah’s permission to still play at my own party without counting myself against the three band limit, I think I’d have to go with the following:

Opening Act: The Dumbledore’s Army Band (a.k.a. me!)
    2nd Act: Catchlove
    3rd Act: The Remus Lupins
    Headlining: The Mudbloods

  47. Dinahsaur Avatar

Maggie, that’s actually already happened! However, I am going crazy trying to remember who organized it and where it’s located on Myspace. Unfortunately I am unable to check Myspace while at work, so I can’t go perusing. I’ll try and find it later for you!

    Good Question!

Okay, for the get-up-and-dance band that you suggested, I’m going with The Remus Lupins. They’re the best for dancing, and I chose them over MoM because they totally have more songs that I like. Especially “Loosen Your Tie” and “Marauders Worst Memory”! Who cares if their Gryffindor? “Loosen Your Tie” can be attributed to anyone!

Anyway, I’ve been dying to see them live ever since this performance of that song in a library was posted on Youtube (and I watched it).

Secondly, my absolute favourite band gets to perform, Split Seven Ways. Why has no one mentioned her yet??? I chose her because I love everyone song she’s ever written, thinks she’s absolutely brilliant, and have memorised much of her music. Whenever I try to think of some good wizardrock, she’s my first source, and I’m obsessed with a fair few songs. It’s automatic; she in, and that’s it.

Especially if we see a brief cameo of her other bands.

Last band is difficult. I keep going between The Parselmouths and The Hermione Crookshanks Experience. On one hand, I’ve been a HCE fan for ages longer than The Parselmouths. But The Parselmouths are brilliant, and I think they’d put on a better show (sorry Kristine!) I think I’d like more of HCE’s songs, though, although I still like the Parselmouths’ songs. Especially if they play “The Day I Met A Snake” in amongst the other classics.

I think I’ll pick HCE, just because it’ll even the bands out, and because I love her so much, more than the Parselmouths. Its my party, and I’ll play who I want to.

However, Parselmouths are still invited, along with everyone else I wanted to invite: Swish and Flick, Gred and Forge, Riddle TM, Whomping Willows, DatM, Tonks and the Aurors (go Steph!), MoM, Japonica, Moaning Myrtles (I considered them briefly because I once thought they might come tour in Sydney, Australia, where I am), Shrieking Shack Disco Gang, The Curse Breakers (only just though of them) and Oliver Boyd.

  51. Zivlok Avatar
    Zivlok

I think the reason why nobody has mentioned Split Seven Ways yet is because no one wants to be depressed at their birthday party. Yes, Zoe’s music is awesome, but almost always pretty depressing.

I left off MoM,the parselmouths,Obtr, weasel king, the remus lupins, gred and forge, riddletm and everyother wrock band in the world because they are all awesome.
