Question Tuesday

This question was actually brought up by one of our readers for her own purposes and it piqued my curiosity, especially since, while I am a great appreciator of music, I absolutely suck at knowing who sings what, what songs are called, and (honestly) the lyrics of even the most recognizable songs.

So here it is: If you were to create a playlist of Muggle songs that you associate with the Harry Potter fandom, what would be on it?

My answer is going to start with the obvious as brought up by Stine, ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’. I know there are awesome reasons for it being a fandom favourite prior to my experience with it in the fandom at the LeakyCon Ball. Yet, even just that experience has cemented it in my mind as a song of the Harry Potter fandom.

One fantastic “unintentional wrock hit” would have to be The Cruxshadows’ fantastic “Tears.” In fact, it makes such a perfect Snape/Lily song that I have to wonder if Rogue didn’t have precisely that in mind when he penned the lyrics. Thinking very seriously of covering it…

    Some sample lyrics:

Hatred, will I escape your grasp?
    Buried feelings let me pass

I cannot kill this final flame
The fire that once consumed my heart
But Hope must have some kind of fuel
And Chance must keep this fire

The gambit flow of shifting thought
She’ll write a kiss upon my cross
And with each moment of despair
Lay to heart a lovely tear

I’m not sure why, but “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen, and “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey

    Awesome @Joella

I don’t know why, and I don’t even listen to em anymore, but Hot Hot Heat’s “Bandages” somehow is ingrained in my head. If I hear it, I am subconsciously convinced that it has something to do with HP.

    “Celebrated Summer” by Husker Du.

Behind Blue Eyes – The Who
I Will Survive – Gloria Gaynor
    Take a Bow – Muse

Behind Blue Eyes because it’s the perfect Snape song and no one has mentioned it yet :). I Will Survive because a few years ago my niece pointed out how funny it is if you think of it as someone singing to Voldy. Ever since then I can’t hear that song without laughing. Take a Bow always makes me think of good ol’ Cornelius Fudge. Also pretty much any song that mentions magic. 🙂 Harry Potter has taken over my life . . .

Far Away by Nickelback. It’s a Lily/Severus song, and there used to be the most awesome Lily/Snape video with that song on YouTube (made by dacrazifrog), but it was taken down 🙁

And yeah, Behind Blue Eyes is a good Snape song. But I haven’t heard it by The Who.. I know it by Limp Bizkit.

Oh, and Little Wonders by Rob Thomas.. because there’s this Teddy Lupin fanfic that has to do with that song.

And probably some more songs that I forgot.

I did it a while ago, it’s annotations on the song ‘Hand of Sorrow’, by Within Temptation. It is THE Snape song, seriously.
Also, I apologise in advance for my awful handwriting… it changes a lot, and it’s not currently like that! XD
