General

Matt of The Whomping Willows was interviewed for an article called, “Hobbits, wizards, and storm troopers: the future of fan art” on Scholars and Rogues. The article focuses on fan created works and some of the copyright questions that can arise.

Bruce from Mirror of Erised gives a heads-up about some free recording software you can download here. It “provides MIDI and AUDIO multitrack recording capabilities at an unbeatable price – FREE. Ok, I agree the application isn’t on-par with Cubase, Sonar, Garageband, Logic or ProTools, but for the price, it might be worth checking out to upcoming wrockers wanting to record their music.”

Kristina of The Parselmouths and Luke from Ministry of Magic have teamed up for a Muggle project called ALL CAPS. Check out their MySpace to hear their music and buy their CD, Songs In the Key of Email.

Split Seven Ways‘ ‘Up To No Good’ is now available on iTunes.

Wrockstock passes will increase starting September 1st. Adult passes will be $150, Junior passes $100, and Kids’ passes will be $50. Head over to the Wrockstock website to get yours at the discounted rate now! You can also check out the first tshirt for Wrockstock the Third here.

Speaking of Wrockstock, have you been to the forums lately? Felena posted this on Wednesday: “The morning drive time DJ team on my favorite radio station played about 45 seconds of ‘Creepy Mustache’ this morning. Kevin (one of the personalities) has been trying for weeks to grow a mustache. His partner on the show, Liz, has been giving him merciless amounts of crap about it. I called in this morning and told Liz to search youtube for the video of ‘Creepy Mustache’ because I felt she could especially identify with the song. They played my call on the radio and about 10 minutes later I’m driving down the highway laughing at their daily antics when suddenly I heard the unmistakable “OH MY GOD!! Look at that mustache!!” I screamed…I squeed…I laughed so hard I nearly ran a muggle off the road! For a moment I thought they were going to play the whole song…but alas, they stopped because it was creeping Kevin out. Just had to share!!”

“Representatives of the wizard rock scene came to an agreement early on with lawyers for J.K. Rowling and Warner Brothers allowing them to continue to create their music and even sell CDs, merchandise, and charge for shows (with a few restrictions, like not being able to sell merchandise online and not being able to use official logos and images on album art, t-shirts, etc.).”

When did that happen? I had heard that Warner Bros. tried to put a stop to fan-based Harry Potter websites at one point, but I don’t remember hearing anything about an agreement between Wizard Rockers and lawyers for Jo and for Warner Bros.

    To WizRockDA-

You can thank Paul DeGeorge for that. It was a few years ago. He really went to bat for the genre. And that’s why you’ll never see bands selling their shirts online, only CDs.

You can read all about the Gentlemen’s Agreement between Paul and some WB dude in “Harry, A History”, if you wish.

Ok, sweet. I haven’t gotten around to buying it yet because I’ve been tightly budgeting my money since I started my new job to get my bills caught up and to get money together for LeakyCon, but its definitely on my list of things to buy when I have money to spare and this just bumps it further up the list. Knowing the details of that sort of agreement would be rather useful for an up-and-coming Wizard Rocker, I should think. 😛
