Question Tuesday!

I was at the Tonks and the Aurors‘ show on Friday, and a Muggle band opened for her, called Weird Paul. To get in the spirit of playing at a wizard rock show, he wrote a wrock song with his friend MC Mystery that they performed. I was definitely touched that he made the effort. Hearing just this song, you might very well think they are wizard rockers.

I’ve heard a lot of times about Muggles not understanding or even mocking wizard rock. So, your question this week is:

When has a Muggle’s attitude about wizard rock surprised you in a positive way?

1.) My friends have put up with it for a few years, but one day I played “99 Death Eaters” for one of them and the next day I heard her singing it under her breath. (She also decided to finish the series that week!)

2.) We drive my cousin to school almost every morning, and I always have my ipod plugged in (so usually we listen to wrock). One morning I played “Be My Witch” by The Mudbloods and the next day she asked me to play it again. and THEN asked me to make her a mix CD of wizard rock (with that song on there).

Well, I’ve taken to forcing wrock on some of my friends, and the other day one of my friends asked for my iPod so she could (and these are her words, not mine) “brainwash” herself.
And I’ve had friends say that some songs aren’t that bad… but only the parts that don’t reference Harry Potter in any way. 🙂

Actually, I can’t recall specifically negative reactions from anyone I’ve told about wizard rock. Last year, prior to our first gig, I told some friends at uni about me being in a wizard rock band, and they were all just really “Wow, does that exist? How cool! And you’re doing it!”

Also, there’s my bandmates little sister who started reading the Harry Potter books because of Alex Carpenter. x)

haha.you mean besides seeing Wierd Paul attempt a Wrock song?

well, I was one talking to a few friends who had no interest in wrock itself but expressed enthusiasm in the message it was spreading. The idea of spreading literacy through music… 🙂

I became pleasantly surprised when I came out with that I played wizard rock in my class. Sure there were a bit of laughs but they think it’s pretty awesome.

My friend Brooke and I didn’t know that the other listened to wrock until last September. A few months ago we told another of our friends and made up this little “Intro to Wizard Rock” sheet for her with bands she should listen to to get herself immersed, bits of information she should listen to, etc. Now she’s gets really excited about it and it makes me so happy. 🙂

This is all I can think of (from someone who has never read HP or seen all the movies).

There is one Muggle who I introduced to wizrock. I work with her. We always talk about music we like. A lot of her favorites are techno/electronic. One day on break I handed her my iPod and put MoM on. Her first question was ‘Do they do normal music?’ lol, but she liked it so I think that counts . . . I hope.

She told me she has friends who are wrock fans (if you’re reading this, hi!) but had ignored there band suggestions before I forced MoM on her. 🙂

My ex-coworkers were all very good sports to my Wrock obsession, and all really got into it since I was playing Wrock everytimes I was working at the store. The best thing though was that one of the girls who never read the books nor saw the movies knew the lyrics enough to sing along and started asking me questions about the stories to understand the songs better. 😀

I was playing “Maybe Tomorrow” by The Rmus Lupins on guitar with my Muggle friends and they seemed to really like the song. They told me it sounded pretty.

I wasn’t going to comment this week because I simply could not think of anything, but then I remembered that I have a terrific muggle anecdote!

My husband is completely supportive of my involvement in the fandom, but was never really interested in reading the Harry Potter books. He hears wrock when I play it in the car or from the other room, but again just not much interest. Then I began playing “Bravest Man I Ever Knew” by MoM on repeat (right when they released Goodbye Privet Drive), and he kept asking me about the lyrics. I always give him a hard time when he asks me questions saying “well, I guess you will just have to read the books.” So, after a while he got fed up and picked up Half Blood Prince. He finished it in just a few days and then I saw him reading Deathly Hallows!
He is still not as Harry Potter crazed as I am, but now he discusses the books with me which is awesome, and has a new appreciation for wizard rock 🙂

Most people I know tend to automatically dislike wizard rock because it’s about Harry Potter, but one day I played some wizard rock while my little sister’s friends (they’re about 13) were in the car, and one of them – who hasn’t read the books – loved it!
