Question Tuesday!

Today, I have a question about your loved ones and wizard rock.

Have you gotten anyone else into wrock?

While I have subjected people in my car to it and even convinced some friends to come to shows, I have only introduced wrock to one person who now listens to it on her own. That one person has turned into quite the respectable fan, though, so I feel good about that.

This past Christmas, I made an AWESOME Wizard Rock mix for everyone I know. Some of my friends claim to be Draco and the Malfoys fans, but I doubt they would listen to it on their own if given the choice of something else.

My roommate, however, has surprised me by becoming a huge Wizard Rock fan! I forced Harry and the Potters upon her in 2007 and now she’s as big a fan as I am.

I have forced friends to some shows, and forced them to listen in the car. One of them likes some of the music, but doesn’t particularly care that it is wizard rock.

I sometimes get together with a friend to play the guitar, and as all I can play is wizard rock, she’s asked me to teach her some of the songs.

She doesn’t listen to it on her own yet, but she recognizes a few songs when they’re on. I’m confident she’ll come around eventually, especially now she’s started to finally read the books 🙂

I introduced a friend of mine to HatP, and took him to a show in summer of 2007, and to a Remus Lupins show in summer of 2008, but he’s more into nerdcore. There’s someone else whom I’m working on, though…

I force fed wizard rock to Maria, and now she’s in a band with me 😀

Same. I introduced my best friend Liv to wizard rock, and now we’re a band along with our other two best friends, who are now into wrock 🙂

I have known a girl who goes to my school for years now. She is one of my best friends but until we saw each other at a Deathly Hallows release party, I didn’t even know that she was a Harry Potter fan. I was telling her about how much I love the Ministry of Magic and thought I was introducing her to Wrock when she said “Oh, yeah. I love Wizrock. The Remus Lupins are amazing!” Since then we have taken up the quest of spreading Wizard Rock throughout our high school. It has worked a bit but it hasn’t really caught on yet.
I make my family listen to about and hour of wrock a day when I blast it through the house after I come home. It’s been working and I just caught my brother listening to it this morning. 😀

When I needed someone to come to the NYC Wrock Fest with me, one of my friends was very eager to give it a try, we had a blast and she listens to it on her own (if we’re ever in a car together, it’s a nonstop wrock singalong), though I don’t think she’s the type to find bands/buy cds on her own I just suggest things and lend things to her.

I’ve also gotten my sister into it, and she went with me to the Bryn Mawr Yule Ball, though she didn’t dance much 🙁 and wasn’t freaking out as much as I was when MoM came on stage. It’s a process that I’m continually working on.

I got my friends to go to the NYC wrock festival and they each bought about a CD each. they all passed the CDs around and they all have wrock on their iPods, but i think im still more into it then them.

I was gotten into it by a coworker when I worked at a restaurant – I’d heard of it before, but never really gotten into any fandom.

After *that*, though, I got my husband and kids into it, and some friends too, though not as much as we are.

There aren’t many people outside my family who knows about my wizard rock interest, so I haven’t really been trying to “convert” that many yet… I’ve made my family (who have all read the series) listen to it a bit, and they think it’s ok, although they don’t really “get” my excitement for it. My brother is the one who has been exposed the most, as I keep sending him stuff, and he has even put a couple of the songs on his iPod. That makes me happy. 😉

I’ve also just started to expose my best friend a little bit to it, and she has liked what she has heard and been interested in getting to know more. I sent her Open at the Close by OBatR one night, and when I came to visit the next day she still kept it on replay…

I doubt my friend is going to become a fan to the extent I am though, but I really don’t mind. Of course I’d love it if she was as into it as I am, but in a way I think I’m in too deep by now. It might sound weird, but living so far away from where it all happens, wizard rock and the online fandom is sort of a “different world” to me, disconnected from the rest of my everyday life. The fandom has grown to mean a lot to me, and wizard rock has almost become a “personal thing”, you know? So then it feels weird bringing someone else into it if they’re not going to really be engaged in it… Does that make any sense?

One of my friends can recognize the Moaning Myrtles but she’s into youtube. And another really likes MoM. I’ve given her a CD but i only think she listens to it when I’m around, like she’ll request it when we’re in the car. she’s started to get into the Butterbeer Experience as well so it’s a start.

It’s still too soon to say. I had a wizard rock night for my local Harry Potter club just last Friday. I think only about three of the people in attendance were actually familiar with the phenomenon, and one of them was my husband (it’s a small club, and we live in Western Canada) but I think most of them enjoyed it. 8^)

I force it on my friends. 🙂 Now, my younger sister, and a couple of friends don’t mind it, but they’re skeptical. More work to do I guess.

Yes 5 people. My sister & her boyfriend, brother, Rachel cline, Ryan huchins. Cuz they all stared to listen to my wrock podcast, and my wrock band.

I am proud to say I have introduced many people to Wrock! Many of these people are the locals in my area… the others you will be learning about through my “Adventures in Wrock” series that just got started!!

@Stine : I know what you mean. I try to speak about the HP-fandom and Wrock around me with my parents and colleagues/friends. But they don’t get it. One colleague seemed to bite at one point, but I’m not sure yet.
That’s what you get when you live far away from where it’s happening.

I’ll be able to let you know in a few days. I sent a wizard rock compilation to a friend of mine who will be attending Azkatraz with me, as she has never heard wizard rock before.

I did give another compilation to a friend who was supposed to go to the Boston Yule Ball with me. She bailed on the Yule Ball, but she did listen to the CD. I don’t think she’s checking wrock out on her own, but she does love what I gave her.

5 people: My parents, my eldest sister and my best friends Tom and Ben (who is now the world’s biggest fanboy of the House of Black).

I introduced my Nieces to wrock as soon as I first heard HatP a long long time ago. More recently, I took one of my friends to a few shows with me and now she’s a fan. She has her own band. Another one of my friends likes wrock somewhat. She listens to the songs Draco and Harry and Party Like Your Evil regularly but I wouldn’t say she’s a fan. I try to convert anyone I meet who mentions they like Harry Potter. 🙂

I’ve had a few friends listen to wrock, and one even got some HatP on her own, but none of them are really interested that much. I don’t see them as becoming fans. I’ll keep trying, though!

  22. Orlina Avatar

    @Stine & Olivier

That’s the same for me. There’s only one friend I have that listen to me when i talk about Wrock without shaking her head in despair. But I think that’s more because we try to support each other with everything rather than a genuine interest in Wizard Rock!

Oh, I spread the Wrock Love to fan-fictions Authors, because even if I don’t know most of them, I know for sure that they’ll be a minimum interested.
A few seemed really thankful, so I guess I did something good ^^

Though I have only been able to somewhat interest a few friends, I have certainly been able to make Wrock a much larger part of both my little brother and my best friend’s life.

And even if they want to change the station sometimes, I know my friends like it (to the point that I have heard them humming a Gred & Forge song).

For a Christmas present I put about 40 wrock songs on Mr. Marauder’s ten-year-old sister’s MP3 player. Now she’s got “Albus and the Chipmunks” memorized and drives everyone nuts be singing “Emo Fawkes”.
