One thing that I feel is especially unique of wizard rock as a musical community is its vast amount of charitable compilations. It’s a truly great thing, and it sometimes seems as if every area of outreach has been covered.

Enter Wrock Against Bullying, a CD put together by Jenn Somers. Jenn, herself, has two wizard rock bands; The Vanishing Cabinet and Essence of Dittany. She began her compilation in June writing in her blog, “I was a victim of bullying as a child and built up a barrier around myself. Being involved in wizard rock and every single, truly amazing person I’ve met through this community has helped me break down that barrier all that much faster. Everyone is so excepting and loving. And I love you all for it.”

She continued, “What better gift to give a child or anyone for that matter who is being or has ever been bullied, than the gift of love. What better gift than a glimpse into our world?” And thus, Wrock Against Bullying uses the power of love in the wizard rock community to battle bullying forces.

Ultimately, proceeds will be going to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, an organization that offers mentoring to kids and young adults. “[They aren’t] solely about anti-bullying, [but] my ‘big sister’ certainly helped me a lot through the rough patches of growing up.”

Wrock Against Bullying can be ordered by visiting The Vanishing Cabinet on MySpace. It’s $15 for US and Canadian orders.

GREAT article! And a wrockin’ compilation for an awesome cause. I think we all didn’t suddenly become the ‘type of person’ that’s fanatical over Harry Potter, so I’m sure many of us were bullied.

I blogged about my own experiences on the TCB site, and I’m curious to know if any of the Wizrocklopedia staff ran into bullying when they were younger!

    Werewolf hugs,
    Jessie!
