In order to make our People’s Choice Awards event exactly that, a people’s choice, we’ve done away with the two step process system we created last year. Also, to eliminate any technical difficulties, we have simplified the process by which votes are submitted. Please read our instructions carefully. We encourage you to explore all of your options before submitting your votes. You can only vote once. You will not be able to edit your choices!
Who Is Eligible
Only music and albums created during 2007 are eligible for winning an award. Unfortunately, bands who did not release music during 2007 are not eligible to win an award. Please check the release dates of albums and/or individual songs before making your decisions. You can search for a history of releases on the Wizrocklopedia by Browsing News By Band. Also, because wizard rock is so diverse, when it comes to categories such as “Best Rap”, any band who released a rap song during 2007, for instance, is eligible to win that category. Please read the descriptions below each category for eligibility requirements.
How to Vote
Please copy and paste the categories into an email and send it to awards@wizrocklopedia.com. Read the eligibility requirements as you go, double checking your choices. You have two weeks to submit your votes. You can only vote once. There is no rush! Emails will be accepted through 11:59PM Central Time on February 23rd. No exceptions. You cannot change your votes, so please be careful and be confident in your decisions. The winners will be announced on March 1st. Like last year, they will receive artwork that they can display on their pages as well as certificates for their achievements. The Categories
Best Male Vocals
Any band with a male lead singer is eligible.
Best Female Vocals
Any band with a female lead singer is eligible.
Best New Artist
Only bands founded between January 1st and December 31st, 2007 are eligible.
Best Full-Length Album
Any album released during 2007 can be nominated.
Best EP
Any EP, LP, “short” as opposed to “full-length” album is eligible.
Best Song
Songs with their original release dates in 2007 are eligible.
Best Solo Artist
Bands officially consisting of a single person apply.
Best Duo
Bands consisting of exactly two official members are eligible.
Best Group Effort
Bands with more than two members are eligible for nomination.
Band of the Year
Any artist can be nominated.
Best Band Fronted By a Magical Creature
Artists or groups whose band is “fronted” by full-blooded magical creatures are eligible. Werewolves and vampires are not eligible for this category.
Best Music Produced From Beyond the Grave
Artists or groups whose members or spearheads perform as “deceased” characters are eligible.
Best Holiday Song
Your favorite holiday song, produced in 2007, whether it be for Christmas, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, is eligible.
Best Evil Wizard Rock Band
Only self-professed “evil” or “dark” wizard rock bands are eligible for this category.
The Best Kept Secret Award / Best Band You’re Not Listening To
To be eligible, a band must have fewer than 1,000 friends on MySpace.
Best Collaboration
Songs created and released featuring more than one band. A collaborative effort. Due to an increase in collaborative work, only studio audio releases are eligible this year. Video or live performances are not eligible.
Best Album Art
Awarded to the artist responsible for the art on an album of 2007. Digital, EP, or Full-Length album art are all eligible.
Best Music Video
Any and all music videos featuring wizard rock songs created during 2007 apply, so long as copyrighted video footage is not used. A video containing only live concert footage does not qualify.
Best Youth Effort
At least one band member must be under the age of 14 to be eligible.
Best Instrumental
Any non-lyrical, instrumental song released during 2007 is eligible.
Best Rap
Any rap song produced by any band within 2007 is eligible.
Best Folk & Country
Any folk or country song produced by any band during 2007 is eligible.
Best Punk
Any punk song released by any band during 2007 is eligible.
Best Heavy Metal or Goth
Any heavy metal or goth song produced during 2007 by any band is eligible.
Best Comedy
Any comedy song produced by any band during 2007 is eligible.
International Awards
For the best bands of 2007 outside of the US, whether they be based in the UK, Canada, Australia, etc. You may pick two bands from anywhere outside of the US. Please utilize your votes and choose two bands!
Lifetime Achievement
The previous year’s winners, Harry and the Potters, are not eligible. Please nominate a band that you feel has contributed greatly to the community, through extensive touring, prolific songwriting, charity projects, or any other quality you feel is important.
