Wizard Rock Myths & Facts

I have recently felt that there is still some confusion regarding wizard rock’s history, popularity, and more. There are a handful of wizard rock sites in existence now, not to mention thousands of wizard rock fans, but there are number of things that a lot of websites and individuals are not aware of. Important things. So, to remedy this, I have written an article entitled Wizard Rock Myths & Facts, a short list of important points wizard rock fans should be aware of, to compliment our current History of Wizard Rock feature.

The Wizard Rock Myths & Facts article can be considered a work in progress. If you feel that something else should be added or that there is a fact you wish to dispute, send us an email at wizrocklopedia@yahoo.com.

I like that you are trying to comprise this archive!
I think The Whomping Willows may be onto something about Led Zeppelin tho, so if you are going to get technical about the Weird Sisters….plus I don’t think they claimed to be a Wizard Rock band until after the HatP’s????….BUT there were a ton of bands…gosh even Leonard Nemoy wrote songs about fantasy books(The Hobbit) Ozzy Osbourne and The Wizard…or Iron Maiden, shouldn’t they get the Wizard rock award for being first and did they influence 100’s of people to form their own…well yeah there are still bar bands that that write about dinosaurs roaming the earth….
    hmmm, interesting!
plus i don’t concider top 5’s to be fact-aside from the myspace record which by the way knock 5 friends off of my count since i am my own friend-over and over again(i know it’s pathetic when you have to MyWhore to be your own friend)-so bad vs. good isn’t really relevent in a list of fact and myths. i like listening and creating bad music too…whatever makes me giggle…thanks again, you guys are awesome!

Thanks Tina. 🙂 As far as the “first wizard rock band” stuff, I was just thinking about Potter rock. A lot of peole I’ve come across think wizard rock should stay Potter only while music written about other books should be called something else, like lit rock. I do think you’re awesome, your family’s projects are amazing, and I hope to keep hearing stuff from you well into the future!

I kept changing the wikipedia entry to say that Led Zeppelin was the first wizard rock band, purely as a joke, and apparently they took it seriously and changed the article permanently. I feel accomplished.

See, I like the concept of wizard rock being songs just sung about being a wizard or about wizards in general. A lot of music from the 70s, as well as earlier (that “Old Black Magic” song springs to mind) fits pretty well into that description. But like I said, a lot of Potter wizard rock fans are completely against the “genre” expanding to include other types of wizardy music. It would definitely give us a lot more to explore if it were a more open genre 😉

There was Punk Rock before the Ramones BUT there was no Blitzkrieg Bop before the Ramones.

HATP have defined a genre and influenced countless people to make music.

That is the most exciting thing to me. To hear 2 girls in Iowa making music in basement is alot more incredible to me then hearing the latest polished pop song on MTV.

I love this movement I think it’s full of amazing interesting people and I’m glad to be a part of it.

Get a computer, boombox, 4-track, anything, get an instrument and make some music. There is nothing holding you back!

    Rock on!
