Question Tuesday

Here’s the scenario: you’ve been talking about wizard rock for YEARS to your group of friends (don’t deny that you’re immediately remembering at least 10 times you’ve done that!) and finally, FINALLY, they agree to give wrock a chance. BUT! Here’s the catch: you can only play them one single song to get them to fall as madly in love with wizard rock as you are.

What ONE wizard rock song do you play for your friends to show them everything the whole genre is in one fell swoop?

OK let’s see in the comments below what you’d play! I’d like to see how many people can actually keep their comments to ONE SONG. Can you do it? Let’s hear it!

Well, dammit Jon. If you answer correctly as the first comment, no one else is going to bother!

The Mudbloods – either Cho Chang, or Be My Witch

Though many of my friends are HP fans, they’re just not into Wrock. Of course I’m a Star Trek fan too but don’t go functions with my friends in Starfleet. And I like Star Wars, but I don’t troop with friends in the 501st, so I guess we’re even. 🙂

I’ve tried to do this a few times, and I usually go with something by OBatR – if it’s someone into the books/movies already I’ll usually go with End of an Era for the emotional cachet, otherwise depending on what I think will suit their tastes I’ve done There By My Side (which is just SO FUCKING GORGEOUS), Spells and Scars if I think something heavier will suit, or maybe Back For the Fight or Bridge to the Other Side. Christian’s stuff is my go-to mainly because it’s so well-produced it’s more familiar to people who haven’t necessarily been exposed to the hardcore DIY attitude.

Another one I’ve used has been Precious Days by TRL because it’s so goddamn catchy and upbeat.

And yes I realize this kind of completely undermines the point of asking for ONE song but I’ve had this occasion happen multiple times!

Hands down it would have to be I Wish You’d be my Witch by the Mudbloods

Oh, I’ve been in this position so many times until I stopped trying to make muggles love it.

Usually, I would go with OBatR like Andrew – maybe Necessity, Flight of the Prince or Just a Hufflepuff.

But one time I kind of realised that I didn’t want to force people into it – since I had online friends who were really into it anyways. I got her to listen to Gred and Forge – Brotherly Love and I think she thought I was a little nuts after that 🙂

As someone who’d never heard of Wizard rock until recently, I’d have to say the ORIGINAL Wizard rock done by RUSH called The Necromancer, which is a song about an ACTUAL wizard! 😀

While I can definitely appreciate the Rush love (and for a song from Caress of Steel at that), playing The Necromancer wouldn’t really fit the bill given that the song has nothing to do with Harry Potter, which is sort of a requirement for a song to be considered “wizard rock” 🙂

It depends – I’ve used MoM, OBatr and, in one occasion, The Parselmouths’ “House of Back” and “My Obsession”.

Yeah, yeah, yeah! It’s good to see you’re a Rush fan though and know the repetoire!

Seeing as it was Draco and the Malfoys, not Harry and the Potters that got me into Wizard Rock, I probably wouldn’t play HatP. However, my favourite artist is Split Seven Ways. However, the Remus Lupins is probably the most likely to satisfy people who aren’t me.

So I’d say Slytherin Don’t Dance. (But Loosen Your Tie is very tempting!)

While my immediate urge is to say something by Swish and Flick, since they’re my favorite, I think I’d have to go with “Ascendio” by MoM. That song just makes me cry, and I feel like it encapsulates why I love Harry.
