Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jam: March 2026

A "Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Jams" sweets label with red and white stripes and the text on a yellow scroll.

Welcome to Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jam, a place where our magical community can gather around a new prompt every month and work our creative muscles making whatever we’d like in response.

For February, our theme was Hogsmeade. The village near Hogwarts inspired some new creative work.

The Bookish Hufflepuff adapted The Butterbeer Experience’s “Needlessly Complicated” into visual form. She adds:

I did a rebus collage of a song about an important Deathly Hallows Hogsmeade scene. I’m also really happy because this is the first one I’ve had to do barely any computer editing, which means I’m getting a lot better at figuring out the lighting for photographing them too!

Most of the lyrics of "Needlessly Complicated" by The Butterbeer Experience, handwritten with stylized lettering and with stickers standing in for characters and some other words.

The Galleon Guy wrote a parody of La Bamba. He explains:

I wrote this as if I were Fred and George. They’re in their first year, and they’ve just discovered a really amazing object…. The marauder’s map! I wrote in Spanish for a couple reasons: 1. the original song is in Spanish. and 2. I think we really need wizard rock in other languages and I’m in such a unique position to create it that I’m going to just go ahead and do it!

Lyrics:

[Coro]
Salimos de la scuela
Salimos para hogsmeade
Se necesita usar el mapa
utilizar el mapa
con los passages, el mapa, el mapa
el mapa, el mapa
por escapar, por divertir, por pasear

[Verso]
NO somos en el tercero
NO somos en el tercero
No hay permiso pa salir
Hogsmeade, hogsmeade
hogsmeade, hogsmeade
hogsmeade, hogsmeade

[Coro]
Salimos de la scuela
Salimos para hogsmeade
Se necesita usar el mapa
utilizar el mapa
con los passages, el mapa, el mapa
el mapa, el mapa

No hicimos tareas
Estamos en detención
pero el Snape no nos vigila
entonces escapamos
no nos importan los profesores

literal translation:
[Coro]
We leave from the school
We leave for Hogsmeade
one needs to use the map
use the map
With the passages, the map, the map, the map
the map, the map
To escape, to have fun, to walk around

[Verso]
We aren’t in our third year
We aren’t in our third year
We don’t have permission to leave
Hogsmeade, hogsmeade
hogsmeade, hogsmeade
hogsmeade, hogsmeade

We didn’t do our homework
We are in detension
But Snape isn’t watching over us
So we escaped
We don’t care about teachers.

This March marks five years since Grace Kendall handed Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jam to me. I’d like to pay tribute to a legend of sad wrock and to parallel my first theme of “growth” with a theme this March of death.

Here’s to many more months and years of getting creative and coming together to jam!
