Welcome, wizard rockers and friends, to Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jam! Come on in. We’ve got things to do!

Before we start on February’s creative challenge, let’s recap last month. January’s theme of action brought both music and some collage behind-the-scenes.

Hallie wrote a Magicians-inspired song called Burn Me Up.

Hallie says this about her song:

This song is a fan tribute to the character of Penny from The Magicians TV series (SYFY 2015-2020, inspired by the book series of the same name by Lev Grossman). Penny’s Library plot has always struck me as heart-wrenching and an embodiment of his character: caring at his core, brave yet reckless, and capable of great love and sorrow.

The Bookish Hufflepuff put together a peek at her collage process. She says:

Lately I’ve been wondering what to do about AI, especially in my own life, and I’ve decided to take action by making art. I used to love to draw, and after a bad experience with a middle school art teacher, I gave it up for other pursuits. But I’ve realized that artwork that looks like it was made by me, doesn’t matter if it looks like it was made by me, and will always be better than AI slop.

I’m taking action against AI in my own life by learning to draw again for my collages (and beyond). This was the first piece I drew. I used kids’ tutorials to learn how to draw the lighthouse, and did some searching until I found the one I liked. I modeled the rock from Hut on the Wrock 1 and 3. The result was Dream Quaffle’s Christmas Present.

Three pencil sketches of a lighthouse, two layouts of a paper cutout lighthouse on a rock, and the final product, a collage for Dream Quaffle that is a lighthouse with their lyrics "Keep a lighthouse, not a gate" written on the light.

Whoosh! also shared a project in the works, playing off of the classic Hokey Pokey.

This February, let’s take our Jam to: Hogsmeade. The goal, as usual, is just to flex our creative muscles and have fun. Whether you sing, write, collage, draw, or something else, I’d love to know you’re making things!
