Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jam: June 2025

A "Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Jams" sweets label with red and white stripes and the text on a yellow scroll.

I hope you’re having a good day, wizard rockers and friends! Welcome to Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Jam, a monthly creative challenge. You all came through for May’s theme of sunshine! It really warms my heart to see you getting creative, having fun, and sharing it.

Spiffy Niffler sent in a photo series and a haiku featuring sun and smoke during a prescribed fire:

A campsite with eight tents at the base of a hill. The top of the hill is golden with morning sun. Text in the top left reads "Sun and Smoke A photo series by Spiffy Niffler". Text on the lower right reads "American Bar, Montana 2024".

A haiku on a background of shadowy mountains and trees silhouetted against a bright blue sky with puffy clouds. The title is "Prescribed Fire". The poem reads "Sometimes all it takes Is a small dose of chaos To let sunshine in"

A firefighter in dense smoke with tall trees behind. The smoke turns the sky a mix of grey and otherworldly amber, and the sun itself looks orange through the haze.

A smoky forest sunset. The sky is a sandy Mars-like orange. Fallen trees burn. Rising smoke distorts the shape of the sun and gives it a warm halo.

The end of a sunset. The sky glows pink-orange against the mountain horizon, and fires echo this glow along the ground. Tall trees overlook the speckles of firelight.

Daylight streaming through the trees, its path visible in the remnants of smoke in the air. The colors evoke a cool morning.

A bright day with clearing smoke reveals a forest opened up by the fire. A boulder stands in the middle of it all.

The forest in the middle of a sunny day. The ground is grey with ash. The trees are black where the fire reached, and green above. The sky is blue.

The Bookish Hufflepuff was inspired to return to a world of her fanfic creation:

This month with the theme of sunshine, I decided to focus on my intermittently updated fanfiction, Daughters of Darkness. Clarissa “Clara” Jeanne Bradley is the daughter of Narcissa Malfoy and the god Apollo in the Percy Jackson universe. She and Renee Sanderson grow up together in the muggle world until age eleven, when they are taken to Camp Half Blood. Shortly after that, they go to Hogwarts. As part of her powers given to her by Apollo, Clara can control sunbeams as weapons and transportation. This is represented in the image. The text is an excerpt of a time when Clara learns to do more with her sunbeams. Daughters of Darkness asks the question, what if Harry was surrounded by not just Hermione, Ginny, and Luna, but powerful girls from all of the Hogwarts houses. I’m happy to say that this BBEFJ has brought me back into writing chapter 21 of the sequel, Children of Darkness. Read the first chapter on A03 here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/19362607

An excerpt from Daughters of Darkness chapter 30, by celia_the_bookish_hufflepuff. “Just… grab one, and let’s go. Hermes said you two could sunbeam, and he said Dad would help the three of us.” “I tried to tell him, I can’t sunbeam in dark--” But a beam had, apparently, picked her up. She reached for my hand and I took it. “You underestimate yourself, Clara. Like, a lot.” “You think so?” “Duh. This is nice. I’ve never taken a sunbeam before.” “There will be more. Once I’ve learned to master it, we could travel to Hogwarts this way.” I laughed. “Hey, look. Percy and his, um… I don’t remember what they are, they’re traveling to that boat. I guess we should follow them.” “I can’t turn. I don’t know how.” Clara was suddenly panicked. “Yes, you can. You didn’t think you could sunbeam at night, but you could. What’s a simple turn? I’d say lean left.” Clara nodded and leaned, and I did too. I spotted Tyson’s water horse doing flips in the water and pointed it out to Clara, and I guess she was feeling ambitious, because she leaned further left. “Lean right, Wren. Let’s see what this will do.” Soon we were laughing and splashing the water. I guess we realized that was the last fun we’d have in a while. We landed by the ship, and Annabeth frowned at us. “Come on. We don’t have time for this. Or that .” She pointed. Tyson was getting emotional about leaving his--hippocampus, that’s what they were called! “Bye, Rainbow. Percy, why can’t Rainbow come with us?” Tyson said tearfully. I rolled my eyes. “Tyson,” I said. “Rainbow, well, he can’t... ” “Climb ladders,” Percy said as a rickety rope ladder appeared off the boat.” “He could go with Clara and Renee.” He looked at us pleadingly. “Sorry, Tyson. Maybe you’ll see him again sometime.” “ That’s the Hufflepuff I know and love,” I joked. “Shut up.”

The Galleon Guy responded to the theme with his specialty, children’s music parodies, writing and recording “Mister Snape” to the tune of “Mister Golden Sun”:

Hostwitch Bess had some fun in the sun with both SlytherSpouse and Swish and Flick, complete with orange juice and zines, as she shared on Instagram.

As our theme for June, let’s continue the Summer of Fun with romance, whether real, fictional, or a happy lack of it. I’d love to know what this sort of love inspires for you!
