We Did Our Waiting: Seven Years Of It.

Back in August, when the wizard rock schedule was announced for LeakyCon 2016, we all noticed a fantastic surprise: the Mudbloods would be reuniting for the first time in seven years!

As a person in attendance at their last show at Wrockstock 2009, the lineup made me do a double take. I never thought they would play live together again. The Mudbloods are (as I’m sure most of you will agree) one of the most-missed wizard rock bands, and they’re still one of the first bands I play for people when exposing them to wizard rock for the very first time.

I was lucky enough to get a chance to talk with Adam Dubberly about this show. After a failed reunion attempt that ended up with Adam playing solo at Leaky 2014, he was so excited that he was asked back for 2016. With Kyle Bradshaw (guitarist) already living in LA, a Mudbloods reunion show was too fortuitous to pass up!

After settling into different jobs, from firefighter to airplane designer to film industry to local government, and in different parts of the country, Adam, Brandon McCullough, and the Kyles (Lowder and Bradshaw) have broadened their horizons considerably. Given the fact that 3 out of the 4 have children now, their LeakyCon performance is, understandably, a one-time event. I made sure to ask about future releases, as well, and Adam assured me that they have no plans to record anything new. So just keep wearing out your old copies of A War Admist Pop Songs, folks.

LeakyCon is such a meaningful event to so many fans, and the wizard rock shows are a huge part of that. The fact that the Mudbloods can drum up (no pun intended, honestly) this much excitement seven years after their farewell performance just further emphasizes the staying power of our little community.

Like we always say, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home, and wizard rock fans will always be there, too.

So the burning question is, did Adam straight-up lie to your face? Or did they already finish recording the EP at that point, so he was just giving you a carefully-worded misleading answer? 😛

Either way, the surprise was SO WORTH IT.

That was some willful misdirection on our part, to help with the big reveal at Leaky.
