Flashback Friday – Split Seven Ways

flashbackfriday

For this week’s Wayback Machine visit, here’s a vid from our own Wizrocklopedia YouTube account featuring Split Seven Ways!

Zoe is most likely still one of the most prolific wrockers, releasing a number of free albums from Split Seven Ways along with her side project, Pansy & The Gossip Queens as well as some muggle EPs (including “Zoe’s Adventures Under Ground”). Although she hasn’t released any new music in quite some time (in fact, before MySpace went all crappy on us, her page’s tagline was “So long, and thanks for the fish!”) and most likely won’t under the S7W name, she’s still left wrock fans with plenty of songs to remember her by.

Don’t forget Malfoy Manor. I’m positive she was involved with that as well.

Anyway, as everyone here who knows me would be aware of, Split Seven Ways is one of my absolute favorite wizard rock ‘groups’. The whole Valedictions album might be the best wrock album ever produced and released, and almost every single one of her songs is heart-wrenching.

In the James/Severus debate, I side with Severus, and one of the saddest things is that Severus was so lonely that he wanted to be accepted by everyone, Death Eaters included, which pushed Lily away, and every song Zoe does about James/Lily/Severus captures all of the emotion surrounding that life event.

Miss Zoe so much! It was always an awesome time when she was in the states! She is a Sidewalk Cafe Wizard Rock Alumni from across the pond!

Dammit, James beat me to the punch. Yeah, Malfoy Manor was yet another side-project. Plus she did a few collabs, including one on the Siriusly Smiling comp. One of our most talented and most prolific artists in the scene, for my money rivaling Christian on both accounts.

I’m so happy I caught the very tail end of Zoe’s stunning career.

Also, we need to do a better job preserving her music. When I was searching for “Stronger Than Imperio” by Malfoy Manor for my Dancing Death Eaters to dance to, I was amazed to find the song doesn’t exist on the Internet! I’m still not sure how one of my Death Eaters managed to get a copy, though I think souls were sold.
