Updating Our Bands List!

One of the biggest and most used features of the Wizrocklopedia since it’s beginning has been the bands listing. New fans have used it to discover new music, and bands looking to book shows and tours have used it to find contact info for potential show partners.

Now that the Wizrocklopedia’s been re-launched, one of our first spring cleaning projects is to get it updated for everyone!

Our goal is to try and get the current band listings updated, as the majority of bands on the list have their MySpace page as their primary website for music. We’re betting that many bands have now moved their music to Facebook, Tumblr, Bandcamp, YouTube or any other number of sites that host music and contact information, and we want to direct fans to those sites.

Of course, along with updating those existing bands listings, we also want to get all the new bands that have popped up listed as well! We want to make sure wizard rock fans can find all the new songs and bands that are now in the community, and help the bands get their music out to everyone.

Now, to accomplish all of this, we’d really like your assistance! Here’s how you can help:

NEWER BANDS – please fill out the New Band Submission form, and let us know who you are, where you are, and the one best site for fans to find your music!

BANDS ALREADY LISTED – you can also fill out the New Band Submission form, but please let us know you’re already on the list, and what new link you’d like us to use for your listing.

While we’re rebuilding the bands listing, we’d like to hear from YOU – are there any other features we could add in for you to help you find new music? One idea we had was to put all of the bands in a searchable table. We’d be able to put the band’s location right next to their name so you could search or sort by location or name right from the same list. Would that be a feature you’d like to see? Or if you have any other ideas, let us know in the comments below!

Submitted my project that’s been going on a while. Happy to see the site back up, and I wish you luck in listing all the new bands.

Thanks James, I’ve got you added in.

As we add in new bands, we’ll put in a little note next to their name to alert visitors so they can check out the new links. We’ll do the same to bands that send us updated info as well.

I’d love to see the wiki come back, since with proper tagging procedures, a lot of that sorting work gets done for you (pages/bands can be put in categories of location, genre, hair ranking, etc). There were a few people who put a fair amount of work into it, and if the files for it or an archived version are still floating around somewhere, it’d be cool to see that come back – especially since it’s a wiki, if people ever need to take time off from updating the ‘pedia again, fans could continue to keep stuff up to date.

I loved the wiki too. IIRC, and I might be wrong on this, it was the open architecture of the wiki that first started causing problems for the pedia, due to security issues. I don’t belive any of that content still exists, aside from some internal links, but I’ll definitely check later on. I’ll also look into newer wiki frameworks too.

Hey, I just thought of something. I saved the whole Wizrocklopedia band list just a week before it went down the last time, and while I haven’t gone through it, what are you planning for the bands who might not be on the list anymore, but also aren’t active at all?

Just curious, as the submit form is for bands, and not for people to suggest bands unlisted.
