Take a Look Back on Wrock in 2008

We’ve been getting questions about the Wizard Rock People’s Choice Awards (WRPCAs). Will we be bringing them back again this year? Well the answer is a big YES! And they’re just around the bend, too! We will begin taking nominations in the next few days (stay tuned!), but we wanted to give Wizard Rockers and Wizard Rock fans a chance to prepare for the process.

Wizard Rockers: Perhaps helping your fans out by writing a blog with what you released in 2008 would help!

Wizard Rock fans: Start perusing your Wrock libraries and noting favourites that were released in 2008. Don’t be afraid to ask the musicians if a certain song or album qualifies!

Some Topics to Consider

  • Best Male Vocals
  • Best Female Vocals
  • Best Album
  • Best Song
  • Best New Band (more difficult to remember than you’d think!)
  • Best Band (from any of various categories including but not limited to Houses, non-Hogwarts, and Magical Creature)
  • International Awards (outside the US)

Remember, there are far more categories than this, but it’s a good place to start. So get your thinking caps on and wrock out hard while you make your decisions!

    @Jonathon: Yes, quite redundant. Both those categories aren’t on there, I promise. Just a typo here, which I fixed. 🙂

    Is it possible to add new categories? Looking at the old ones, I think Best Lyrics would be a good one.

    @Marauder: We will certainly take suggestions for next year, but this year’s already went through a rigorous email exchange of arguing over wording and interpretation and other tiny details by me, Dinah, and another highly qualified wrock representative, Art. At this point, they are fixed, sorry!

    I remember there’s been a category for best comedy song in the past as a subsection of the genre categories. I think it would be great to have a category for best “serious” song as well. Maybe a “Best character analysis” or something.

    Oh, another question: If someone makes a song and uses free loops that they were allowed to use, are there any qualification issues there?

    I already have my best male vocals 2009 one picked out for next year’s contest (yes I realize it’s only April). For 2008 I’m going to have to do a bit of going back and listening to some stuff.

    When the further categories are released, instead of the them being “Best Rock Song”, “Best Hip Hop Song”, “Best Instrumental Song”, “Best Comedy Song”.. would you consider changing the word “song” to “release” because then songs and albums/eps would be eligible? Just a suggestion. 🙂
